Ibleedbrown
I was pretty excited to see this movie. For one, it’s a period piece about bikers that spans the mid 60s to mid 70s. And two, it was filmed largely in Cincy and it’s always cool to see your town in the backdrop of a flick. The movie is based on a book written by a dude who photographed and interviewed a Chicago based Motorcycle Club intermittently for a period of about 10 years starting in 1965. And that’s basically the format of the movie is that guy is a character in the movie and it’s pretty much what he saw and who he interviews that makes up the plot. The majority of the interviews were with the wife of the #1 bad boy in the MC Club. She was played by Jody Comer, he was played by Austin Butler. The other most notable member of the club is the president, played by Tom Hardy. Comer is basically the star of the show where much of the plot is driven through her experiences. She’s basically portrayed as a plain jane type woman who stumbles into the world of bikers and falls in love with Butler’s character, marries him and whoosh she’s off to the life of an old lady. Butler plays this sort of ultra broody James Dean type character with a short fuse. His portrayal was good for what he was asked to do, but l didn’t care for the character. Hardy did well with his portrayal as the club’s president. I really didn’t care for the movie as much as l wanted to. From a pure entertainment perspective it had a choppy plot line that consisted of scenes of the guy interviewing people, and a series of vignettes of day in the life of a biker type stuff. One thing l did like about the movie is it delved in to the history of MC clubs and how they evolved into what they were later in the 70s. It sort of touched on the biker lifestyle and the types of people who were drawn to it. Overall l’ll give it a C-, but that’s boosted a bit by the extra fun l had location hunting throughout the movie. 1
Westside Steve
As I said, it grew on me as it went along. Really didn't like it at first until the story, the historic parable, the characters and the acting fell into place. WSS
Browns57
I found it a little boring, but I did appreciate the historical aspect. I also give it a C+.
