Mike Pruitt days left

One of my top 5 or 6 Browns RB's.  Back when football players wore real pads.

Paul Warfield days to go   ( Please scroll down to bottom. )

Center John Morrow and wide receiver Paul Warfield of the Cleveland Browns watch the action from the sidelines during a game on September 20, 1964...

~  ONE  ~   Paul Warfield  from   Warren, Ohio  and later   The OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY    on to The Cleveland  BROWNS   and  Miami  DOLPHINS    and  beyond.

■  QUITE  A BODY OF WORK FOR  Paul Warfield  from HIGH SCHOOL  -to-  RETIREMENT FROM THE NFL. ■

Paul Dryden Warfield (born November 28, 1942) is an American former professional football player who was a wide receiver in the National Football League (NFL) from 1964 to 1977 for the Cleveland Browns and Miami Dolphins, except for a year in the World Football League (WFL) with the Memphis Southmen in 1975. He was known for his speed, fluid moves, grace, and jumping ability. A consistent big-play threat throughout his career, his 20.1 average yards per reception is the highest in NFL history among players with at least  300 receiptions.

As a star halfback playing college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes, Warfield was twice named to the all-conference team in the Big Ten. He was selected in the first round of the 1964 NFL draft by the Browns and converted into a wide receiver. After three Pro Bowl appearances with the Browns, he was traded to the Dolphins, with whom he made another five Pro Bowl appearances. He then spent one season in the WFL with the Southmen before returning to the Browns for his final two seasons of play.

Warfield played in seven championship games in his professional career—four NFL Championship Games with the Browns and three Super Bowls with the Dolphins—and earned victories in the 1964 NFL Championship Game, Super Bowl VII, and Super Bowl VIII. After his playing career, he served as a scout and adviser for the Browns for several years. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1983, and is a member of the Cleveland Browns Ring of Honor and the Miami Dolphins Honor Roll.

Memphis Southmen    WFL (1974 to the end in 1975)    ▪︎ With Csonka and  Kiick. (Bad decision ?)  In 1975 season.  -  3 TDs ?   25 Rec.  422 yards.

IN  MARCH 1974,   he was selected by the Toronto Northmen in the second round (23rd overall) of the WFL Pro Draft.  Prior to the start of the 1974 season, Warfield and teammates Larry Csonka and Jim Kiick made what were then surprising decisions. They left the Dolphins at the conclusion of the season for what appeared to be more lucrative pastures with the Northmen of World Football League (WFL).     The Northmen then moved to Memphis, Tennessee, without playing a game in Toronto, and became the Memphis Southmen. Warfield played the 1975 season with the Memphis Southmen, catching 25 passes for 422 yards and three touchdowns.

Return to Browns and retirement.

After the DISSOULUTION  OF THE WFL  AFTER THE 1975 SEASON.   Warfield told reporters he would be interested in rejoining the Browns if the Southmen were not admitted into the NFL. The Southmen were refused admittance, and Warfield was ultimately persuaded to rejoin by Browns owner Art Modell, who felt Warfield would be a valuable asset as both a receiver and in public relations.  Warfield played his final two pro football seasons in Cleveland, catching 38 passes for 613 yards and six touchdowns in 1976 and 18 passes for 251 yards and two touchdowns in 1977.     In his eight years with the  BROWNS.     he caught 271 passes for 5,210 yards and 52 touchdowns. for an average of  33 rec.   313 yards    6.5 TDs.  per each year played for Cleveland.

The problem was two fold.  The team sucked.  And the guys in charge sucked.  These guys wanted a contract and Sashi Baffoon said, We were 4-12 with you.  We won't be any worse without you.  -  We are soo much better off with Stef and Berry.  (human beings though they may be)

~  Here's  ~  one for the  Cleveland  BROWNS'  jersey # 35  that probably doesn't get much attention. ....  but deserves some.   AT  # 35  playing  LB  Mr  Galen Fiss  ....  See his wiki bio and stats below  ...  [ even doctored up a bit  by  ME !       Mr mjp  himself ! ]

Back in the years ( 1960 to 1971 ) when unless you were a  QB or maybe a RB you didn't get much press.  Did not get great team photos either .... far before the  "NFL GLAM ERA".

● Despite the fact he played for 11  seasons at  LB  -and-  was the   TEAM CAPTAIN    for the  ....  (of the SIX YEARS that he was a  TEAM CAPTAIN)  ... BEST there was since the      1964  NFL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM !  ■

▪︎ the wiki bio ▪︎  Galen Fiss (July 30, 1931 – July 17, 2006) was an American football linebacker who played 11 seasons with the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League (NFL). Fiss was captain on Cleveland's NFL championship team in 1964.

*Fiss, who had Alzheimer's disease, died of cardiac arrest in 2006. [ *What a sad end of his story here. Passed on in his mid 70s of Alzheimer's disease.   :o   * by mjp. ]

■   .... edit add # 1  ....   I found  this ADDED  piece of information from the    cleveland . com      obituary of  Mr Galen R. Fiss.   Please read on  .....   ■

After graduation he was drafted by both the Cleveland Indians and the Cleveland Browns, although he initially served his country for two years as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force.

He played baseball for the Fargo Twins a minor league club of the Indians in the Northern League.

■  Galen was then offered a contract by Paul Brown and reported to the Cleveland Browns training camp in 1956 where he played the next 11 years for the Browns of the National Football League at linebacker. Galen served as a    CAPTAIN of the team for   SIX YEARS ; his career was highlighted with an NFL World Championship in 1964. He was an NFL Pro Bowl member in 1963 and 1964. ■

After retiring from professional football Galen and Nancy returned to Kansas.

City, where he started his insurance career. He formed and was President of the G.R. Fiss Co. an insurance and surety bond agency now operated by his sons.   END of the part from the Galen R. Fiss obituary.  He was quite a player and a person.   EOM.

o.k ?

Lol. Back when Rucker announced games for NBC, he was assigned a Browns-Bengals game.

During the game he said he had dinner with Sam Wyche. A reporter brought it up, Wyche denied it.

I don't know why I remember this crap😄
