During the same stretch, the Splendid Splinter Williams batted .412. Both greats, Ted was a bit of a troubled person with a tough family background. My dad told me a few TRUE stories about Ted Williams the man, player and soldier. TW born in 1918 my dad in 1921 and both in WWII and Korea at the same time. Soldiers and sailors sucked up baseball news and games any way they could. TW played 19 years with BOS but 3 years in WWII and about 2 in Korea as a jet pilot. He was good at it because of his incredible eyes and eyesight. My dad told me that he could read the label on a moving 78 rpm record among other incredible feats. Comes in handy as a jet pilot too. Some of his greatest seasons were between his Marine Corp stints .... like that famous CLE pitcher. * Can you imagine what lifetime numbers both Ted Williams and Bob Feller could have had ? When you have time go look TW up. Edited May 16 by mjp28 * BEST EVER !
