VaporTrail
Good decision. When I was in medical school, I could tell who the quota students were. We need to lift people of all walks of life to meet the high standards for professional schools, not lower the bar so that you get a perfect mix of skin tones to match the general population. We need to stop referring to these practices as "affirmative action" and start calling it what it really is - institutional racism. Clarence Thomas' opinion is worth a read for the scathing criticism he gives of Jackson's opinion. 2
calfoxwc
everything the left does, is solely for political power reasons. Affirmative action was a good idea to level the playing field....but it has turned into "vote for us on the left you idiots".

Clarence Thomas' opinion is worth a read for the scathing criticism he gives of Jackson's opinion. Heard on the radio today that the opinion from Clarence Thomas included a piece by Cleveland's own Peter Kirsanow, a member of the US commission on Civil Rights who happens to be black. I've listened to Kirsanow a lot. Extremely knowledgeable. This is part of an old piece from Kirsanow. Affirmative Action Sacrifices Students - CBS News Consider the progression resulting in the above failure rates. As my colleague Abigail Thernstrom has noted, The National Assessment of Educational Progress, "the nation's report card," shows that only 25 percent of black 17-year-olds read as well as the average white 17-year-old. Nearly 90 percent of black 17-year-olds score below the average white 17-year-old in math. More than 90 percent of black 17-year-olds score below the average white 17-year-old in science. In the end, the average black high school graduate has the academic proficiency of the average white eighth-grader. Accordingly, the number of black high-school graduates ready to compete at the college level is small. The number who performed well enough to compete at elite colleges is smaller still. Colleges must draw from this small, yet underperforming (relative to whites) group in order to satisfy their "diversity" programs. Admissions offices couldn't begin to fill their diversity requirements if black applicants were evaluated in the same manner as whites. A regression analysis conducted by Robert Lerner and Althea Nagai on behalf of the Center for Equal Opportunity shows that at some schools black applicants are more than 100 times more likely to be admitted than whites with the same GPAs and SATs. Blacks flunk out of college at a much higher rate than whites. The black students who do graduate still lag far behind white students in academic competency — the gap that prevailed upon matriculation largely persists through graduation. It's from this small, underperforming pool that law schools in search of diversity must populate their classrooms with "meaningful numbers" of black students. It's run it's course and the playing field is now even. In today's day and age if a person of color cannot succeed in life it is through no one's fault but their own. Demonrats support AA because it translates to votes. Blacks support AA because supporting it helps validate the false narrative of blaming society and racism on their current plight, rather than where it belongs.

The more democrat agendas that are made into law, the more socialist a society we become. What the bickering has been about is pro-socialist vs anti-socialist policies... whether between us or the politicians. Can you guess which positions are democrat/socialists? FY56
A long long time ago credit had to be given to given to demonrts for pushing socialist polices that were actually good....Social Security, GI Bill, child labor laws and I'm sure a few others. The demonrats use usefulness has run its course. But in order to maintain power and votes, the illusion of '' helping the little guy" must be maintained, resulting in the shit we have been putting up with today. As with the race baiters as it the likes of Jackson, Sharpton, and BLM, racism must be found in order for them to exist. 1

Perhaps in a few ways it borders on it, partly. People pay into the gov run social security program = the more you make, the more you get out of it. That is contrary to socialism - where the utopian idea is that everybody gets the same free piece of the pie. One caveat, though - i.e. - some people who never paid into it, can get ss. Like special education students. My Wife taught spec ed - and the school psychologist had to week out, best she could, those street kids that tried their best to be classified as spec ed when they were NOT, they tried it, though, so they could get ss after they graduated. ss is supposed to only be for retirement funding assistance. Anybody believe that students would not be qualified for ss in democratic/corrupt inner city schools? I don't. The G.I. Bill? No, it is not a socialist program. It is only for VETERANS and their families. Not for distribution to everybody in America equally. We have differentiate between "gov run program" and "socialist program". covid relief funds , I see that as being a socialist program - "everybody gets a free equal piece of the pie".

Yeah you're probably right. Aside from the GI Bill not being a socialist program, I should have done the research rather than believe what some Democrat told me a long time ago. LOL It was a bipartisan effort. What party started the GI Bill? Republican National Harry W. Colmery, a former national commander of the American Legion and former Republican National Chairman, is credited with drawing up the first draft of the GI Bill. It was introduced in the House on Jan. 10, 1944, and in the Senate the following day.
