The Mi-17 is a Soviet-era helicopter designed in the mid-1970s which was previously relied on by Afghan forces and can be used in an aggressive capacity. Kirby also noted that the U.S. has provided a total $3.2 billion of military assistance to Ukraine, including $2.6 billion since the beginning of Russia's invasion of the country. The U.S. is also providing artillery equipment to Ukraine as part of the package, which Kirby said was the first time the U.S. has sent artillery to the country.
