Unfortunately one of the main truths is that anyone needs advisors but should select advisors who are compatible with your political strategy. For instance had the president wanted to take a more militaristic and more aggressive stand in the Middle East and elsewhere I would imagine his advisers should include people like Lynn Chaney and John Bolton who come from that military preemptive Bush Doctrine type of mindset.
