Vambo
https://brownswire.usatoday.com/2021/05/18/pff-ranks-baker-mayfield-tenth-best-qb-heading-into-2021/ Pro Football Focus has high expectations for Mayfield, ranking him as the tenth best quarterback for the 2021 season: Give Coach of the Year Kevin Stefanski a ton of credit for how he helped set up his quarterback for success. The Browns protected Mayfield early in the season, but when Stefanski opened up the playbook, Baker excelled. He was the second-highest-graded quarterback in the league from Week 7 through the playoffs. He also ranked in the top five from a clean pocket, on standard dropbacks and on early downs for the entire season — all of which are important and stable metrics. There are a couple of interesting names listed just ahead of Mayfield with Lamar Jackson and Matt Ryan ranked eighth and ninth. It will be interesting if Mayfield is able to build on his 2020 season will he threaten the top five of these kinds of lists? calfoxwc
I look at it like this - Mayfield did a proud job this past year. This coming year - Lamar Jackson will have 3 first round draft picks at WR. Matt Ryan has had Julio Jones. Calving Ridley, both 1st round picks. Patrick Mahomes is outstanding, and he also has Travis Kelce at TE, Tyreek Hill, and Mercole Hardman... it's going to be exciting - and I can't wait to see what the addition of Anthony Schwartz brings to the office. and with the defense upgraded awesomely, he won't have to press like he has had to in the past... going to be a great time this season. ballpeen
Sounds about right. I have never felt you needed to have the best QB in the league, just a top 1/3rd QB. I think Baker falls somewhere is there Add in a sound ground game and a good D and you have the makings of a team that can not only get into the playoffs, but be a solid contender in the playoffs. As a fan that is about all you can ask for. Once in the playoffs, sometimes a lucky or unlucky bounce of the ball makes the difference. The front office appears to be solid in their ability to bring in quality players, and the coaching staff appears ready to coach the team to a winning level. If you have that, you have a chance. For now, it is just one game at a time. Win one, then work on winning the next. Add them up and see what happens. I will say a 3 game win streak goes a long way towards having a real shot. Just looking at the schedule, November is a critical month with only 1 home game. At minimum we need to split November. 2
TexasAg1969
Best thing will be having a better defense to provide more time with the ball and more opportunities to grind down other teams with TOP.
Unsympathetic
At present, the 10th highest QB contract is.. you guessed it, Ryan Tannehill. The delta between the 10th highest and highest is over 15M.. aka the annual salary of Garrett through end of next year [goes up the last 3 yrs of contract]. Would you rather have a top-3 QB or.. the #10 QB and the #1 DE? I'll take option 2 every day.
SdBacker80
Regardless of the ranking we can only speculate how much Baker wants and salaries are just going to escalate from here. I think it is critically important to get it done before Josh Allen signs. Don’t let that negotiate which will be a similar to our negotiations dictate our offer. Also, he brings inangibles and leadership to the position that cannot be measured. Enjoy the ride, Boys! Zombo I always wanted a franchise quarterback how ever you measure that the last two BROWNS had were probably Kosar and Sipe.....winners. I think Baker Mayfield can equal or top them especially with the RBs and good WR/TE combo plus the OL may be coming around, that's roughly what Bernie had. And you can't overlook the influence of a good D, ST and coach. The 2020 era BROWNS may well be in the midst of one that combination now plus may be the top team in their division which helps so let's enjoy the ride ! And of course they have the FANS.
TypicalBrowns50
I admit I was harsh on baker the first half of last year. He was mediocre. He excelled the 2nd half and was dropping absolute dimes, ironically right after OBJ got hurt. the main dynamic I want to see this year is Baker and Odell. If they have some better chemistry, it opens up the offense tremendously. would you guys say last year Baker and Odell looked a little better? I’d say maybe marginally. The offense by its nature is about spreading the ball to multiple playmakers so I can see Odell having a similar year to last year. Hope he stays healthy. calfoxwc
I can't wait til Anthony Schwartz adds a Tyreek Hill impact to the offense. Will take some time, but he has the skills, the smarts, the character/work ethic.... He won't just be a diversion from defenses double-covering Landry and OBJ. Should open up the passing lanes a bit for our TE's. Should be an exciting football team. Football season is so far away. I need to stock up on panfish fillets in the meantime.... Edit: except the Manziel thing, don't let him fool you there. He raved about that guy having the "it" factor. still 1 of 2 ain't bad. He led the league in overall passing grade (94.7) and passing grade on 20-plus-yard throws (99.5) in 2020 en route to taking home the MVP award. ******* is a stud, playing with timing and rhythm we haven’t seen from him in years. His average time to throw was his lowest in over a decade. The most impressive thing about ******* in 2020 was his patience with the offense and ability to let it work for him. He managed to stay on course and operate the attack while sprinkling in his playmaking ability. There is no doubt ***** *** is primed for a Super Bowl run, but that all depends on if the team can smooth over relations with *******. Tour2ma
Well..... deep passes are harder for the DL to tip... I think we all have to remember that even more than was the case in 2020 Baker's main priority in 2021 is to not fuck up. The clarity of this emphasis as 2020 progressed was stark. The reason for the "even more"? The (at least on paper) improved D. Will there be games where Baker will have to win them for us? Yup... and could be the case as early as Week 1... but should be far fewer than those he simply has to not lose for us.

The Regular season and its opponent are Bakers opportunity to become a better QB at very little risk. He will get some opportunities against good defenses. The path to the SB and January football. KC, Buffalo, Balt. Are gonna score on our D and they will make Baker beat them. The WRs are going to need to beat single coverage and he’s going to need to deliver on the opportunities. NYJ looks set to improve on their 2-14 record... only issue is it is gonna be tough road for NYJ to eek into playoffs. A couple of Saleh's AFCE brethren, Flores +1600, McDermott +1600, look attractive as well, but how can you resist Bill "I'm a Man on a mission with a reloaded roster" Belichick at +1800? DPOY: DL dominate lately (Watt and Donald) so DuPree at +6600 under Vrabel in TN and/or Clowney at same odds. CBPOY: Teboe +2000, if you have to pick one... word is he's really looking the part of a TE on OTAs and you know Urban loves him. DROY: LBs rule this one... Cox +4000 next to Parsons in Big D looks enticing. OROY: Only position to spoil the recent QB run is RB... Sermon +2000 in SF looks well positioned among the longer shots, but Harris +1000 in PTG deserves strong consideration. MVP (a/k/a The QB Award) : Mayfield +3300 jumps out. That was fun!

It is fun & thanks.. It's crazy early, to be tossing money on players, but now's the time to like some odds...here's a few i might consider? Kamara looks low on that mvp list. McCaffrey too.I really like Kingsbury & McDermott coaching odds.. I can't do Bill with no QB commitment relying on Newton or Mac Jones yet. Jets will be better, but not Bills/Mia. better.. Garrett/Donald..while i also like the sleepers of the Bosa boys & that damm Chase Young👀 i almost favor Chase on them odds? 🤔 Rest i see as a 4 horsemen race... Rookie's? I like Parson's/Paye/Collins & JOK on Defense.. Offense? Trevor/Wilson/Fields or Najee Harris..but i see your points on Sermon in a Shanney system & a better OL.. I too, love the Mayfield bet for MVP 👍..MaHolmes/ Lamar/Allen makes 4..(and Kyler Murray could slip into this race before he comes into Cleveland) i'd like to lock-in over the Memorial Day weekend... Talks me in's* or outs* are always welcome...

And He will only benefit from the attention put on Garrett.
