I guess they have a choice. Move the plant to Mexico to avoid the higher taxes and restrictions or give up the Union jobs to the illegals Joe's bringing in; tough call.

Well, I think that pretty much says you have no idea what it takes to get hired in the auto industry. You don't just walk in to one of those union jobs.🙄

So you're anti-union, or is this going way over my head?

Don't worry he just doesn't understand that there are non Union auto plants as well.

I'm not worried, but you know I'm a union guy & get a tad sensitive about union bashing. Unless it's warranted.

I know that.  And like I said I think the  move is more likely based on taxes and regulation.

WSS

Most certainly.

It's just weird to me though- if you look at Capitalism, which is fantastic BTW, the companies obviously look to maximize profits, and make moves like these. But when workers (union or non-union) look to maximize wages, it's kind of frowned upon.

Capitalism is a two way street. Corporations don't always see it that way.

I remember I tried getting a job at the Chevy plant in Parma and the Ford Plant in Brookpark.  No fucking way (this was in the early 70's).  You either had to have a relative who worked there or some connection to get in.

Yea, know fucking shit, but the plant in question IS union.  There is no fucking way an illegal is walking into any of the big 3 and getting a union job. Hell, they probably wouldn't even hire them as a summer temp.

Lots of leeway especially with the  Teamsters.  I was a janitor at consolidated freightways a Union shop The guys that loaded and unloaded the trucks were Union. I doubt any had advanced degrees. Other guys might well have been skilled tradesmen.   Union didn't particularly differentiate.

Unions helped American workers be treated fairly, have safe working conditions, and got them fair wages.

Terrible stories - read a book on coal mine unions back in the day. Starting a union led to death and destruction.

Check a good book on it - google them.

The trouble started with SOME unions, when they were no longer needed, and had to make themselves still

relevant with out of necessity nitpicking bickering. Meanwhile, the union brass got filthy rich, and pushed fair wages

into extravagant wages to keep support for their exorbitant salaries, and eventually some businesses went out of business or closed up and moved elsewhere.

and that comes from an old former union guy in a giant company - he said he was proud of the unions most of his life, but they wouldn't quit fighting the company, even when there was NOTHING to fight for. etc etc.

and the politics - some unions have gone way off the mark with political bigotry and leftwing bonuses.

like AFL-CIO Richard Trumke. And VP Tefere Gebre  is also a leftwing systemic racism democrat from Ethiopia.

then there is the SEIU.
