SdBacker80
On slight off topic note: I thought the defense battled yesterday. We missed some tackles didn’t pressure a lot but I thought they played well with what they had...changes are coming and those changes will probably come via draft. We need to upgrade speed and maybe find an interior pass rusher and coverage guys of course. Now the off topic: Mack Wilson film study from the end of 2019-to present day. Might be the worst tape you will see- any takers? It surprises me that he played under Saban.

Yes, I was thinking that when watching it live. Hilliard is a high upside LB with great athletic ability who has had an up and down career. But he's playing into a day 3 pick. He has had an up and down career due to injury though. When he has gotten on the field the guy has played phenomenally. There are a lot of defensive guys who have been big in the last three games but I think Hilliard has had one of the biggest impacts. I'm so happy for the kid also. He never quit and I really hope he does get drafted by some team.

I’m impressed by his ball placement. The handful of Bama games I watched he gives his WRs, Backs and TEs every opportunity to YAC it up by putting the ball perfectly in a spot where they can catch and run. But I want to see how he handles a little pressure in his face...getting off his spot...it’s coming with OSUs interior dline.

That is the concern I have always had about both Bama and OSU QB's. They both are surrounded by 5* and high 4* HS best in states they come from players, so against most teams they play the QBs are not pressured that much. Willie Joe is one of the few who was able to make it decently in the NFL. along with Bart Starr, and Kenny Stabler, all Bama players. Zaven Collins - he's that good. I was watching him keenly in their last game - and he didn't get to do much. Made a few tackles, once went into the backfield on a rush - he was on the right side, the qb rolled out to his right, and Collins forced him out of bounds on the far side of the field. I was hoping to get a better look at the bowl game, but nope. What was frustrating - the opposing team ran away from his side most of the game. It was amazing. They threw downfield, or ran up the middle, or to their right. In other games, Collins reminds me a little bit of Clay Mathews. Mathews is 6'3", 255. Collins is 6'4", 260, and has excellent instincts. And he plays sideline to sideline. Collins just this past season, had 4 sacks, 2 fumbles, 4 interceptions, and 2 TD's. he can really move too -
calfoxwc
having said that, I am also keenly interested in Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah "The next great hybrid player, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah blurs the line between linebacker and safety. Notre Dame was as comfortably lining him up in the slot as they were rushing him off the edge. A Swiss-army-knife, his blend of length at 6’1″ and speed make his floor tremendous. However, weighing in at only 216 pounds, I do have some concerns about whether or not he can be an impact between the tackles in the NFL. How Notre Dame uses Owusu-Koramoah this year will likely dictate whether or not the NFL views him more as a safety or a linebacker. Explosion like this is unfair form the a linebacker spot. Notre Dame’s Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah(#6) gets after the quarterback in an instant off the weakside blitz. pic.twitter.com/sJV0HtXFxL — Matt Valdovinos (@MVScouting) June 6, 2020" **************************************** just my opinion, he could be an all pro safety, obviously a bit light for full time lb. Bolton - has been mentioned - he's very good, but smallish - 6', 235. I like a bigger lb. and very fast at the same time. Not easy to find. Owusu-Koramoah is just amazing. He is on my early list for the Browns first round draft pick. but it's way too early. ****************************************** "As expected, Notre Dame All-America linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah has declared for the 2021 NFL Draft. A two-year starter at rover, Owusu-Koramoah had back-to-back brilliant seasons for the Irish defense. The Hampton, Va. native racked up 142 tackles ... " ********************************************** However - there is a good bit of talk - about the broncos drafting Owusu with their overall ninth pick. dammit. In Mathews' day we ran a pure 3-4 and at Tulsa they run a 3-3-5. So I have to ask... is he a fit for us? Granted... we can change our D to use him, but we are going to need to sign/draft with that in mind.

If he does check in at 260 (a VERY heavy off-ball linebacker) then the tape doesn't show it. Because he moves pretty decent for somebody at that weight from the little I've seen. 4 hours ago, calfoxwc said: However - there is a good bit of talk - about the broncos drafting Owusu with their overall ninth pick. dammit. Watched the ND - Clemson and Bama games. Shades of how Hitman Harry was used at ND and Minny, both the good and the not-so-good.
