alporcini
Can someone remind me why we soured on him so quickly? Which front office/coaching staff? Dude hits like Dick Butkus.
The Gipper
True, he was playing great.
Dutch Oven
Apparently the Browns switched from the 3-4 to the 4-3, making him expendable in the eyes of the Browns, since he was an inside linebacker? I know during that time period the Browns were getting rid of many veterans that weren't in their long-term plans.
hx214
That was Sashi. Another terrible move. Traded him for that safety Pryor who got in a locker room fight and was cut in preseason before he even played a snap. Not only that, but I always heard he was a great guy that does a ton for the local community and was a great locker room guy too. Sure would be nice to have another linebacker like Davis around. Another reason not to build a football team based solely on analytics.
Tour2ma
2 hours ago, hx214 said: That was Sashi. Yup... same guy that signed him away from the Jets.... to play in Ray Horton's 3-4. Then Hue fired Ray and hired Gregg Williams who ran???? Yes... a 4-3.... At the time we had Collins, Schobert and Kirksey on the roster as well. Realization that we would only start 3 LBs in a 4-3, Davis was traded back to the Jets for Former 1st-round, Draft Pick, Calvin Pryor, who was a good FS playing out of position at NYJ... and Gregg needed a FS. It didn't work out. Davis had a good year with the Jets and then jumped to the Saints, who moved him to the Will in a 4-3 where he has upped his game. But yeah.... blame Sashi and not the staff who couldn't see him in their 4-3.

Davis was a very solid starting LB that was signed for $8 million ($4 Million guaranteed) . Sashi then signed Collins for $50 million who was known to be a guy that mailed it in on the field and traded Davis for a thug who couldn't get on the field and was cut from the worst team in the league before playing a snap. Sashi was completely worthless. Did nothing that a 12 year old playing Madden couldn't have done. Cut all your vets because you want to dump salaries. Lose the Pro Bowl OLmen that you had groomed for years, sign next to nobody outside of Collins who was a waste . Drag the franchise through the mud for two years trying to accumulate draft picks but prove you can't evaluate talent, or bring in real football players. calfoxwc
my opinion, it's also the fault of some coaches who refuse to adjust their schemes for the talent they have. Whether it's arrogance, or ignorance, whatever. The Browns coaches tend to never make adjustments at halftime no matter how much it seems that their "gameplan" isn't working. That, and reports that Kitchens kept calling plays that weren't in the game plan, and weren't practiced all week. That's self-destructive, for whatever reason it was.

jiggins7919
It was a bad move and the result of switching defenses (yet again) and just another example in a long list of screw ups.
Canton Mike
WAIT! Is DeMario Davis currently a Brown? No? OK Mike

Could be a record for number of times being wrong in a single post. Foremost of which being that Sashi "evaluated talent".

Unsympathetic
Player eval may have been one part of his role - but that doesn't mean he was the only one who said anything. Since this has been a committee approach.. my guess is everyone had a say, and Sashi would only speak up if he really disagreed. In short, "talent evaluation" was actually not solely his purview. DePodesta has been part of the FO since 2016.. let's blame him for all of these moves!
