LogicIsForSquares
I like how they got a grant to do a study to show that getting stoned and getting behind the wheel is dangerous compared to sober driving haha. In other news, a lengthy study found that water is wet.

calfoxwc
You have to read the stuff under "They also point to studies", Logic. Need to read all of it. http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/pot-fuels-surge-drugged-driving-deaths-n22991 During each shift at her drive-through window, once an hour, Cordelia Cordova sees people rolling joints in their cars. Some blow smoke in her face and smile. Cordova, who lost a 23-year-old niece and her 1-month-old son to a driver who admitted he smoked pot that day, never smiles back. She thinks legal marijuana in Colorado, where she works, is making the problem of drugged driving worse — and now new research supports her claim. "Nobody hides it anymore when driving," Cordova said. "They think it's a joke because it’s legal. Nobody will take this seriously until somebody loses another loved one." As medical marijuana sales expanded into 20 states, legal weed was detected in the bodies of dead drivers three times more often during 2010 when compared to those who died behind the wheel in 1999, according to a new study from Columbia University published inthe American Journal of Epidemiology. “The trend suggests that marijuana is playing an increased role in fatal crashes,” said Dr. Guohua Li, a co-author and director of the Center for Injury Epidemiology and Prevention at Columbia University Medical Center. The researchers examined data from the federal Fatality Analysis Reporting System (FARS), spanning more than 23,000 drivers killed during that 11-year period. Westside Steve
They should have just been drunk. That is much safer. Ah yes, the old two wrongs make a right argument. Anyhow I don't give a fuck it will greatly increase profits to drug treatment plans stoned driving attorneys and municipalities via fines. Clevfan4life
I liked the part in the article that said that at least with Marijuana, users were quite aware of their impairment whereas with alcohol you ahve no clue...you still think you're driving just fine. Therein probably lies the crucial difference. With weed once you get that first hint that you're not all good you get an adrenaline rush, enough to get you home. I experienced that alot back in the day when I smoked. Than once you got home and turned the engine off, you're like wtf how in the world did I just make it home cause i'm high as a mother fucker and mother fuckers are high as fuck. In any case driving high should be just as illegal as driving drunk. But if we're gonna keep alcohol legal than there is no fucking reason why marijuana shoudln't be. Lifetime alcohol abuse is categorically proven to be worse for you than marijuana use. If for one simple reason, marijuana has some of the most anti inflammatory substances in it on all of planet earth. Not even most synthetic substances can touch it. That in and of itself makes it worth it because chronic inflammation is the root cause of practically every malady known to man, cancer being the most conspicuous. You can't treat yourself like shit but smoke marijuana and expect to be perfectly healthy, it can only hold shit off for so long.....but for people who take care of themselves in general, this stuff would be like wearing a suit of armor over a kevlar vest. LogicIsForSquares
I hate drunk/drugged drivers. The pillbillies here get tuned up on oxys and go for a drive. On two occasions, my wife and I had to call the cops on them passed out at intersections. I guess the last coherent moment they have is used to put it in park. One of them had a kid in the passenger seat.

gftChris
Of course that's not the point. The point is that we are just adding we drivers too drunk drivers. That's a good thing right? WSS Because people are grown ups? There are plenty of things that are legal that would impair your ability to drive. I wonder if research has been done on the increased likelihood of fatal accidents involving people who have recently taken sleeping pills? Because I bet that causes problems. But we trust people not to do that, same as we trust people not to do so with weed, and for some reason with alcohol. Weed doesn't (I believe?) lower inhibitions, in fact it can make you more paranoid - better not drive, cops are everywhere, etc - whereas alcohol has the opposite effect - it'll be fine, I'm not going far, etc.

It is, however, a little ridiculous how the proponent of marijuana talk about the shit like its a panacea for all the wrongs and ills of the world. WSS Who's doing that? Everything I've seen revolves around "it's far less dangerous than other things that are legal, why is it illegal again?" Then you see studies like this one showing how 'dangerous' weed can be, so obviously we shouldn't legalise it...

blowe
This sounds like a parallel to the debate: "who is the killer, the gun or the man holding it?" There are so many ways to get fucked up whether legal or illegal and those who are going to drive intoxicated are probably already doing it. Without research I don't think legalization is going to suddenly lead to an increase in traffic deaths. I would be interested to see if it has in Colorado. First step to partial prevention would be to make it illegal to smoke in cars parked or moving and anyone with a car omitting the smell of pot should get a DUI. Note: there is a distinct difference in smell between smoked and unsmoked pot.

Westside Steve
So what was the point of the article in the OP? The OP? Well it was from the usually left-leaning Time magazine and just pointed out that marijuana isn't the wonder drug that everyone seems to think it is. I know you are obsessed with it and I think you should be allowed to have all you want. Keep in mind that while those who hyperventilate over this are the same ones preaching about the dangers of alcohol. We are not eliminating the dangers of alcohol we are just adding the dangers of marijuana whatever they may be. Why shouldn't we legalize oxycontin? Or should we? Or cocaine? I would assume someone could drive better and work harder with a gram of blow than a bottle of whiskey or bag of weed? Dystopia ho. WSS
MLD Woody
Obsessed? Hyperventilating? If you can't even keep the argument from the other side framed within reality, there is no point in going any further.
