Sunday night Nina Davuluri, Miss New York, was crowned the winner the 2014 Miss America Pageant. She is the first contestant of Indian descent to be crowned Miss America.

They mean south asian indian, not native, just to clarify.

It's laughable how people are calling her an arab, 'joking' that she's a terrorist. What do we think, gang? In fairness, I'd go for Miss Kansas, on the pictures alone - something about a woman with a bow and arrow...maybe it's the geek in me ;)

Meh.

She's pretty. And I'm not typically attracted to the blonde barbie type, but based on achievements/interests/ hobbies, my vote was for Kansas. If it was just a "beauty" pageant, my fave would be Oklahoma:

boing!

As far as twitter goes, I'd look for a "level-headed reaction" here before I ever searched a hashtag on twitter about a potentially controversial topic. We all remember the calm response the Zimmerman verdict fetched on twitter, right?

She's gorgeous and smart, what's not to like? She's got a degree in Brain and Cognitive Sciences, she'll be going to medical school, too, so you can get your geek on about that too.
