“One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It’s very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project. Most people are a little reluctant to oppose anything that suggests medical care for people who possibly can’t afford it.

[under government controlled healthcare], the doctor begins to lose freedom… [patients] are equally divided among the various doctors by the government… so if a doctor decides he wants to practice in one town and the government says to him, you can't live in that town… the doctor will have to go. And from there, it's only a short step to dictating where he will go.

All of us can see what happens once you establish the precedent that the government can determine a man's working place and his working methods, determining his employment. From here it's a short step to all the rest of socialism, to determining his pay. And pretty soon your son won't decide, when he's in school, where he will go or what he will do for a living. He will wait for the government to tell him where he will go to work and what he will do.”

it isn't much of a surprise its been on every news outlet imaginable.

from what I can tell it's not a huge divergence from the attitudes of the last decade.

WSS

It wasn't a big change but in organization such as the church these types of statements by the head person takes yrs/decades to slowly make it way to more of common place within that organization.

another one- "Am I not destroying my enemies when I make friends of them?"

This is the gateway to turning this nation into a communist country. We already parralel a lot of the same principals with all of our laws and regulations. If you can recall back in the days of your youth while attending school we were taught that in communist countries only those who work for the party get to enjoy the luxuries of life while the rest broke their backs providing it for them.

Now sit back and look at our current economic state of the union. Many folks are forgoing retirement and staying in their field of work because they cannot afford to live if they were to retire . Many working class citizens are not able to afford vacations homes etc. But if you are a government employee many are alotted these things, banks and lending institutions know they can always lend to people with government jobs because they know they will never be layed off.

Now go break your back and pay your taxes because to many welfare and government employees depend on you to provide for them.

I don't like Obamacare either, just to be clear.

However, this paragraph mirrors the new Republican Party's minor platform...home school vouchers; the disdain for public school education because they believe teachers cost too much money; the desire to kill public employee pensions.

Fiscal responsibility, or socialism? The Rs are just as guilty of socialist ideology here. "Many companies don't have pensions, so why should public employees have one?"

Politics suck by both parties.

I love the home school vouchers, btw. Some folks deserve to have another option. They still pay taxes and support

the schools ...well, unless they aren't property owners maybe...@@

The disdain for public education isn't because teachers cost too much money, it's because so many ed systems have

fallen into liberal political correctness, and liberal courses in the curriculum. And, a lack of discipline of bullies/serious troublemakers.

I love the teachers' pensions. Married a teacher, they EARN it. I have big problems with the NEA, and state "EAs". Locked into

one party via the union reps, etc. If you are a conservative teacher, you shouldn't be required to pay liberal support dues

to the teachers unions. If they aren't going to represent you politically, you should at least be able to earmark your dues

to "non-political". You watch that be tried, the unions will go ballistic.

Wrong argument. I don't see "socialist ideology" in the Reps. Public employees should not have unions. Well, at least

not for financial gain reasons. Fair treatment, okay. But public employees striking against the same people who pay

all the bills? The gov of the people, by the people, for the people, should not have the power to dictate or leverage

union activity against those same people. Pretty much negates the "of, by and for" eh? How can a union strike, or negotiate

more money in pay and bonuses and retirement funds... against people who are already taxed to the max?

It's an unworkable situation if the stuff hits the fan. JMO, Bob

Yes. When you get rinos with no spine or legitimacy like McCain, Graham, on one side, and President Clinton and her husband Bill,

Biden/Schumer,Reid/Pelosi, Obamao, Holder etc etc.....

They all need to be thrown to the curb. But I'm more disappointed with the dems. They passed Obamaocare, most of them

didn't read it, research it, or care.

It was a political gamble for utopian bragging rights and votes. But, it's backfiring on them.

So much of politics these days has gotten corrupt and out of hand. It's all about mo money, mo votes, mo reelections,

etc..... than serious convictions of right and wrong. It's really hurting this country, and sending us down a destructive road..

...and stupid standardized tests, I suppose. Plus, IMHO, the Strongsville strike didn't help anyone's image, as a few teachers' behavior spoiled the whole apple cart. My frustration with education is that in Ohio, the Supreme court ruled years ago that school funding is unconstitutional, yet nobody ( D or R) has the courage to address it. Then our Governor cuts school funding to public schools, and funnels $30 million into Charter Schools....an attempt to weaken public schools.

It's a shame but the game of politics today breeds this. I understand your view here, I really do. Many in my family tell this to me all the time. My only non-emotional argument is simply that larger corporations, like an oil company for example, can contribute far more money to a PAC than any single union can.

I tend to think that most Americans are moderate, and get tugged left or right on certain issues. It's the extremists on both sides that drive the moderates nuts. Vote as an individual, not as a puppet to a union or corporation.

I hear that, but most public unions know that the economy is faltering. I didn't appreciate Gov. Kasich & his posse making SB5 his #1 priority as soon as his mic was turned off on Inauguration Day. I invited the head of the Buckeye Institute up for a debate, he declined. His website was calling people like me "free loaders," wow. I am not anything special, but I am not a "free loader" by any means. I'm a taxpayer, and my salary is paid by all taxpayers. Police and Fire actually do need unionization, and as you know, have no right to strike. You are correct in that it is ludicrous to demand raises above what the pot in a municipality can provide. Wage freezes are becoming the norm in NE Ohio lately, just like the private sector....unions do understand this.

Are adjustments needed? I am sure they are in some shape or form. The pension boards are working with/complying to state legislature's demands. The gains of the 80s/90s aren't there anymore.

You know, Bob, sometimes I'm just full of crap. Other times, I really think I'm justified in what I think about things...

You're still in Berea ?

Sometime, you should come down with your family, visit our farm, and we can hang out around a bonfire and

laugh about stuff. Bring Steve if he ever takes a break from being a rock star. Canton Mike is local, too....

Yes, still in Berea.

No, you're not full of crap...we are all entitled to our opinions, and it's a forum. Where is the farm? I wouldn't mind a bonfire. We could listen to a game on the radio while we vent lol.

It's weird how life is. My parents are still hard-core Rs, even though Reagan deregulated the trucking industry and basically killed our family business. Then I started leaning more left, and bingo...here comes Clinton signing off on NAFTA. In other words, politically I can blow with the wind.

I am like you and everyone else here...I just want the USA in the right shape. It is very scary right now for sure.
