The Gipper
Because it came up elsewhere....and because the Browns schedule release is probably only a few weeks away, here are some notes on future seasons and future events in the NFL: 1. The NFL schedule for the 2013 season is to be released on April 17th. 2. The Browns will play at Home: Balt. Cincy, Pitt, Buffalo, Miami, Chicago, Detroit, Jax. Away they will play: Balt. Cincy, Pitt., New England, Jets, Green Bay, Minnesota, KC 3. The NFL draft will be held April 25 through April 27th. 4. There will be 7 new and one "old" coach in the NFL this year: Chud for the Browns, Dough Marrone/Bills, Marc Trestman/Bears, Gus Bradly/Jags, Chip Kelly/Eagles, Mike McCoy/Chargers, Bruce Arians/Cards and Sean Payton will return to the sideline for the Saints. 5. In 2014 the AFCNorth will play the NFCWest. 6. Stadium issues: A. One source says that 2013 will be the final year the 49ers play at Candlestick. However I was under the impression they were going into their new Stadium in Santa Clara this fall. May need to clear that up. B. This will be the last year the Vikings play at the HHH Metrodome. In 2014 they are scheduled to play at TCF Bank Stadium, which is the Un. of Minnesota stadium. In other words, they are going to be outside in the cold again for one year. Shades of the old Metropolitan stadium in Bloomington. Better wear your booties campers. The Browns will miss that treat. The following year the Vikings will move into a new retractible roof dome on the site of the current stadium. C. 2013 is the last year on the Raiders lease at the Oakland Alameda County Coliseum, or whateverthefuck they call it now. What happens with them is unknown. It is now the only dual purpose (baseball/football) stadium in the majors now. The Raiders could become co-tenants of the 49ers new stadium...or they could pack up and move again to LA to the new proposed stadium there. This is the last year at Candlestink. I would bet on the Raiders moving in with the Niners. The stadium in LA is hitting some snags because the AEG group that owns the land is for sale. Plus, I've heard a few different time that the Raiders are not the desired tenant because of the stereotype that comes with Raiders fans and that fan base is not a good mix when trying to sell condos and office spaces around the new stadium. The Gipper
I note that the Browns have what seems like a very favorable travel schedule. They don't have to go any further west than Kansas City, no further south than Baltimore or Cincinnati, which are about the same latitude. East to New England and north to Minnesota.
