Westside Steve
So, heck, what in particular do you take from that? If, in fact, the rest of the stuff Reverend Al babbles on about on a daily basis, ie poverty, starvation, racism, in equality, etc, has any basis in reality he should hate Obama worse than Bush, no? I mean seriously Occupy Wall Street should have the tar and feathers outside the White House door! WSS
Westside Steve
Guess embed isn't working for you either. Isn't there a link that you can click on? There wasn't a link on yours, at least on this pads browser. I just did a Google search for ineuality video. WSS

heckofajobbrownie
Never mind Sharpton, Drudge. Set aside what the causes of it (many, and complicated, and not all within the purview of government) or what to do about it, do you think that level of inequality is healthy for an economy or for a democracy? My answer would be no, it's not.

FairHooker11
what will it be? what will "fix" the inequality? what would you choose? so at the risk of the scorn from the cynacle here, heres my .02 it will be conservative values and work ethic that fixes the inequality by returning to the simple statement - "if you wont work, you wont eat" STOP BLAMING people who worked hard for their success! -smaller government - fairer tax system is JUST a start IMO. Set aside what the causes of it (many, and complicated, and not all within the purview of government) or what to do about it, do you think that level of inequality is healthy for an economy or for a democracy? My answer would be no, it's not. Well if we are to set aside the messenger, the fact that government really can't change it and the fact that we know there are many reasons most of which beyond our control...( and I realize you are trying to goad me into a fight here) my answer is this: it's neither healthy nor unhealthy, it's the way it is. The link I posted was to the 50 richest musicians in the world. Each of them does primarily what I do to put bread on the table, some of which I think are brilliant. Others? Not so much. In total honesty, heck, I rarely even think for 1 second how their net worths are 1000+ times what mine is. And even if I do think of it I spend absolutely no time stewing about it. heckofajobbrownie
Wait, who is the messenger? Al Sharpton did this? Or you found a link to it from MSNBC? Those are two different things. I didn't find a link to it from MSNBC. I saw it on Andrew Sullivan's site. And comparing the highest paid musicians is a bit apples and oranges. But I guess I didn't think you'd care. I thought you'd at least say it's not all that healthy, and then move on to how we shouldn't do anything about it. How about tax policy? Does it inform you at all about tax policy? When we're looking to find revenue, does this make you think any differently about where you might get it?
Westside Steve
Sorry. Since there was no link the first time I did a Google search for inequality video and that's the 1 that came up, the one starring Al Sharpton. Ok. I admit I was surprised you would post that. So you have only one, correct? And that is the 1 with the United States map and piles of money? I did watch that 1 too. Did you watch the 1 I linked ? Westside Steve
But yes it does say something about tax policy albeit something we already knew. And that is that the top bracket pays for nearly everything. So let me ask you, how much equality is good, complete equality? Do you support a graduated tax plan that would bring the numbers to what this video suggested people thought should be fair? Should we have a cap on wealth, say 5,000,000 dollars? Take the rest and divided equally to the 98 percent of us. Why would that be bad? It would be much more fair. WSS

Westside Steve
You are correct. I guess I consider myself middle class although I don't wear it as a badge of honor. I did ask you if you wanted to redistribute everything to the tune of where Americans say they think it should be. If that is indeed your position great! I'd guess you'll find little support except for maybe the bleeding edge of the fringe left but... Mostly I think preaching egalitarianism is a wedge designed to grab more power. But if you choose to fight for that cause more power to you. WSS

Westside Steve
Oh my God. Oh cripes Heck who cares? I know I know there's nothing in the world you like more than the idea of raising taxes on somebody, anybody. I don't know how much better you'd feel if the top 1 and a half percent had everything instead of the top 1 percent. You've already admitted you don't want people to be equal, not even close, not even close to close. So I don't know why you are badgering me about it. If resentment politics is that successful, stay with it, it worked this time. Give me a number that would make you happy and the world a better place. There's nobody I know who can't improve their lot in life just a little bit by trying a bit harder at whatever the hell it might be. And if you buy into the fact that you have to be miserable because somebody else has more, I can't help you. You won't make them successful or happy by pinching of the top 1, 5, 10, 20 percent of Americans but it must make you happy to think about it. I'd be all for some sort of tax hike but nobody's going to hand out any real cuts, you know what, I know it. I would, however, want those taxes to be spent to reduce the debt. But that ain't happening either so it's hard for me to get all worked up. I'm just not very bitter, and I don't really care, sorry. WSS
