The Gipper
I know that there has been discussions about possibly picking up some of the following players, but recent events have taken them out of the picture for the Browns: QB Joe Flacco, signed a long term deal with Ravens CB William Gay, signed by the Steelers CB Jarius Byrd, Franchised by the Bills DE Michael Johnson, Franchised by the Bengals WR Dwayne Bowe resigned by the Chiefs OLB Anthony Spencer, franchised by the Cowboys. I know that last one was the guy many had their eyes on for coming to the Browns...but, alas, he will not be available. Here is a link to the status of current FAs. It is my underestanding that official talks with these guys can be held as soon as tomorrow and that signings can begin as soon as Tuesday: http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/transactions/free-agents
cambridgeho
If we could sign Kruger and Sean Smith and draft Jarvis Jones. We would have one hell of a D for years to come. I am pretty sure this new FO is going to put up some cash to make a splash in FA, they do not seem like the old FO that had the build through the draft mentality. I mean shit, look where it has got us. I just hope the FA see what the Browns are building and want to come here!
cambridgeho
Whats also is sad is our Fa's, our best Fa according to that list is #85 in J. Parker and Josh is #95.

I have the same wish list for Cleveland, plus Goldson and Martellus Bennett! But this isn't madden so hopefully the new FO takes care of business and signs a few of these guys
Erie Dawg
Whats also is sad is our Fa's, our best Fa according to that list is #85 in J. Parker and Josh is #95. That list has alot of flaws i would rank welker alone alot better. For example mike walace is ranked higher than welker, jennings, amendola. Look at the stats and tell me the walace deserves to be there.

I think somehow their age and injury has some things to do with it. We all know welker is a beast but at 31 and coming from NE where he was a slot guy, he will not be seen as the same dude. He will produce by all means but not 112 catches like in NE. As for Jennings his situation proves that Green Bay has a great either development of wr's or the offense can just run with whoever they put in there. So he will kinda be seen as Welker, being a product of the scheme. As for Amendola, he is ok but not great. He is not good enough to take time away from our younger guys. I'm basing most of my opinion on walace from the fans, his coach, and the media that he is a one trick pony. All of the guys above may not be as fast but are by far better route runners and have better hands. No matter where welker goes he is a slot guy same with amendola. Welker will produce minimum 80 for 800. Produce critical 3rd down conversions. Massaqoi and benjamin were in the slot last year, I dont know about you but i would be surprised to see that kind of production out of travis. But yeah I would welcome wes or danny to take time from benjamin.

That should mean all our best players are still under contract and are going to be retained.

Erie Dawg
Well, did he or didn't he. I knew that Merriman did. Gip change your tampon, i had the two momentarily mixed up and went back and edited my post. I didnt see it to be that confusing. So in case your still unsure spikes did not retire. And i dont think he is worth looking at..
Erie Dawg
That might put DA in the driver's seat for the re-tread we bring in. Zombo Here is how i think it may play out. If we are able to fill enough holes with FA we will go edge rusher 1st round and Qb 3rd round. Or FA qb and fill holes with draft. Not big on either of those because there is still some good value in the 3rd round to continue to fill needs on either side -vs- a project qb. Lumbergh
DA in the driver's seat like I said before, the biggest question at QB this year is how Weedz is gonna handle giving DA the #3 jersey.

I didnt see it to be that confusing. So in case your still unsure spikes did not retire. And i dont think he is worth looking at.. Well, the report was that he was cut by his current team. I had not heard whether or not that was by his request because he intended to retire him, or if the Chargers just wanted to dump him. And, fair enough, you say even if he were available he wouldn't be worth taking a look at. So be it. I assume the B/L/F team agrees with you? Unsympathetic
Moore and Hartline both resigned with the Dolphins. Jason Campbell, Brady Quinn, Brian Hoyer, Drew Stanton, David Garrard, Chase Daniel are the only FA QB's this year. Oh, and JaMarcus Russell and Vince Young. Why bother picking from that pool of fail?

Why bother picking from that pool of fail? You forgot Derek Anderson. Or do you not even rank him in your pool of fail? Maybe we could bring back both DA and BQ and put them in competition with Colt and BW3. Would that be satisfactory to all? And then have Thaddeus Lewis emerge as the starter
