jrb12711
I figured I'd put up a thread on the combine since there's not much else to talk about. I watched a decent bit of yesterday with the QB's and WR's and the only thing that stood out is there is flat out speed in this year's class. Shit, two OL ran a 4.6 and a 4.7. Before you all blast me I don't take 40 times as a basis for drafting people, but it's amazing how fast athletes are becoming. I think 5? WR's ran sub 4.4's and Gooodwin from Texas clearly ran a tad quicker than his 4.27 official time. The only other thing that stood out was a few interviews with Geno Smith. He impressed me with his ability to say the right things despite basically being told he's the best of the worst for the QB class. I also was impressed with the fact he put himself out there to throw/run because top prospect QB's typically dodge the combine. I'm not sure if the rumors are true but if Alex Smith heads to the Chiefs Geno might be sitting there at 6. He did also say he met with the Browns in an interview FWIW. Also another random note: Steve Breaston meeting with the Browns Tuesday. That would definitely upgrade our slot receiver position.
MLD Woody
Nice. More Michigan players. I just watched to see how Denard would do. From my impressions and what I've read by analysts, he seemed to have helped himself a lot.

jrb12711
Here's just a fun tidbit I yanked from an article. God Bless the raiders haha: "Interestingly, there appears to be a chance that whoever gets the top billing will play for the Oakland Raiders at some point in his career. As Rovell notes, the player who posted the top time in four of the past six Combines has played for the Raiders. Oakland drafted DeMarcus Van Dyke (2011), Jacoby Ford (2010) and Darrius Heyward-Bey (2009) and signed Yamon Figurs (2007) in 2010."

miktoxic
defensive backfield day! WOO HOO!! gonna be interesting to see who flops (like teo' did yesterday) and who impresses. teo' will be lucky to get drafted in the first round after yesterday's showing. he better juice up between now and his pro day.wonder if all the media attention has fucked with his mind so much that he suddenly has become mediocre (not saying that he wasn't all along). i tell you what he should sue the fuck out of that fruit that fucked up his whole life and embarrassed him on a national stage. miktoxic
Are people really putting that much stock in Teo's 40? i'm not saying he won't be a good linebacker. i was listening to a couple of former GMs talk about, based on the numbers he put up yesterday, if he could be a 3 down LB. if he can't his stock goes way down. overall my point was that in recent years, no one has come in more touted at their position than teo' and he basically shit the bed. but he wasn't the only one. i'm interested to see what mathieu is gonna do today. jrb12711
Are people really putting that much stock in Teo's 40? I heard a really interesting piece about 40 times and LB's in the NFL. Bill Polian actually alluded to this on Sportscenter this morning too. I can't recall exactly but a significant amount of starting OLB's (which he will play in the NFL) ran under a 4.7 I know he ran a 4.8 which is very close but GM's use it a fair tool, especially evaluating potential 3-4 outside guys. The Gipper
Dee Milliner ran a 4.31 40 his morning. Is he still in the discussion at 6? I would think so. I have checked and only like 20 guys have ever run a faster 40 time in the official history of the combine...though that official history only goes back to like 1999. Here is the list: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/40-yard_dash For what its worth. Some of these great, fast players haven't been worth spit in the NFL. Others certainly have. BendMeOver
Are people really putting that much stock in Teo's 40? John Harbaugh apparently is, or at least acted disqusted by Te'os poor 40 time. Apparently, both the Steelers and Ravens are interested in Te'o (to replace Farrior or Lewis respectively). Many teams will shy away from Te'o, because they believe he is "gay" due to his imaginary girlfriend scandal, per profootballtalk.com. Even though a preponderence of Yinzers seem to want Te'o, I hope the Steelers stay far, far away from him. He's not worth a 1st round pick, maybe worth a gamble in the 3rd or 4th rounds. Against Pitt and Alabama he was of no impact, with the latter being as close to an NFL team as college gets. Hopefully, people in the Steelers organization are putting stock in his 40 time and moving him way down on their draft boards.

It's not like he was getting much help from the rest of his team in that game. They were outplayed in every single position and facet of the game. I think he could be a solid guy in the NFL. Not a world-beater, but he may make a Pro Bowl in his career, depending on where he goes.

I watched that segment and Harbs looked disappointed that Te'o didn't have another gear ... disgusted? WTF. What do you mean by many teams think he is "gay"? Why is gay in quotes? Entire teams think he is gay? Many of them? Did you check your sources at TMZ.com? It'll come down to what happened between the white lines when he lined up as the leader of ND's defense, it always comes down to the football. The film. Zombo Hey Golden Domer Homer- I agree with Endy our Steeler friend- I wouldn't touch T'eo even in the third round. I still have Brady Quinn phobia about over-rated Notre Dame guys. Ya, Ray Lewis slid because of a lousy 40 time, but damn man- 4.8 is SSSSSLLLLLOOOOOWWWWWW for a LB in today's NFL. He'll get eaten alive in pass coverage, every down. I'd say 90%+ of NFL TEs can run at least that fast, and any slug slot receiver will be wide open by two steps if they isolate on him. Other than the speed issue Z, if you watched the 'Bama game he was getting his ass blown out of the picture on virtually every play. That's what killed Mike Junkin and Tom Cousineau- inability to shed blocks. Should I add he over pursued and took bad angles the whole game too? Sure it was just one game, but it was a total stinker. I don't think the phony girlfriend thing will scare off most teams- but if he does lousy on the bench press at his Pro Day, it sure will.

BendMeOver
What do you mean by many teams think he is "gay"? Every national sports talk show/newscast is discussing the "gay" angle. There are alot of outspoken anti-gay NFL players, and bringing an openly "gay" player into your locker room is just asking to disrupt team chemistry. Personally, I think Te'o is mentally unstable, ala Vince Young, so bringing him into your locker room will upset team chemistry reguardless. BendMeOver
He's not openly gay. Zombo Okay, Zombo, let's say you are a stud football player going to Notre Dame who's name is constantly swirling in the media. Without a doubt the football skills of the Great Zombo will guarantee a round draft choice and millions of dollars. Btw, you can pretty much have the pick of any super-duper-extra-hot woman or women you want on campus. So would you fall in love with a "woman" you met online, then never go to see her? Obviously since you are going to Notre Dame, you have the highest moral character and would never fornicate outside of wedlock. How then could it be possible for you to never meet the woman of dreams, the woman you fell head over heels in love with, for what a year or two? You live in Hawaii and travel to Notre Dame, obviously you have money!!! Further, how is it possible possible you could be duped for so long? The answer is it's impossible, at least as Te'o presents it. For this to happen (as Te'o described) the Great Zombo would have to be stark raving insane and we know that can't be the case can it? *** The Anti-Great Zombo*** Okay, so the next part will be hard for you to fathom. If you saw Star Trek, Captain Kirk was always running into his evil twin from some other universe (that mirrored Kirk's own universe)...so you have to try to think of this scenario as your evil twin, say the Pathetic OBMOZ or something. So this Patheic OBMOZ character is completely "Gay," but he doesn't want his parents to find out. He's going to a super-straight Catholic university, just like Notre Dame, and they hate "gays" there. Little boys are okay, but not outward "gays"!!! He's also playing in a sport just like football but where they hate "gays" too. How does he get out of all the offers of free sex with super-duper-extra-hot women and stop his parents nagging him about a girlfriend? He has to be taken by a woman, brilliant!!! Last I checked real women love meeting the guy's parents, especially since it validates commitment on the part of the guy to her. But if this evil OBMOZ just creates an imaginery girlfriend, he can always invent some kind of convienent excuse to keep her from meeting his parents. If the imaginary girlfriend gets out of hand, well then kill her off and problem solved, cause he wouldn't want to be in another relationship for say years due to heartbreak. Such a sweet pathetic guy!!! Hey, and his imaginary girlfriend can be his "gay" lover too. Bingo, problem solved. So in the case of Te'o is he more like the Great Zombo or the Pathetic OBMOZ? Unsympathetic
TL,DR The only shocking thing I saw at the combine was OSU's Hankins not doing well. miktoxic
since milner and jones will probably be gone at 6 i'm wondering how far down would we have to go to still stay in the mix for guys rated in the teens but pick up the all important second rounder? i mean i like mingo but i like a pick in the second more if we can still grab a stud where ever we fall to. don't know if there'll be a lot of takers since people are saying 10 - 25 are pretty much all the same as far as the numbers are concerned. it will be a battle of who needs that positional player that badly IMO.
