tampadawgs
Now that our coaching staff is in place, now we can look to FA class then the draft. First thing first free agents. Here are the top 5 players I really think the Browns need to go get. If we pull the trigger on these players, we will be playoff bound next year!!!! 1. Michael Bennett, DE, Buccaneers. Age: 27. One of the more underrated players in the NFL, Michael Bennett is a solid pass-rusher and a premier run-defender. He plays all three downs and deserves a big contract. 2. Andy Levitre, G, Bills. Age: 27. Andy Levitre is a stud guard who excels in pass protection. He also showed off his versatility, playing decently at left tackle in some games in 2011. 3.Jairus Byrd, S, Bills. Age: 26. Jairus Byrd is one of the top safeties in football. He shuts everything down in coverage - he was responsible for no touchdowns all year - and he constantly comes up with turnovers. He's also decent in run support and is seldom penalized. He deserves a massive contact. 4. Connor Barwin, DE/OLB, Texans. Age: 26. Connor Barwin is coming off a very disappointing 2012 campaign. After registering 11.5 sacks in 2011, he managed just three this past season. He's talented, so there's a good chance this was just a fluky year 5. Greg Jennings, WR, Packers. Age: 29. Greg Jennings is a talented receiver, but he may be overvalued because he's always worked with either Brett Favre or Aaron Rodgers. Plus, he tends to get banged up quite frequently. I think there is a great chance we can get all 5 of these players without breaking the bank. Byrd is the only one we would have to drop big money for. Levitre would tighten up our o-line he might cost a little bit of money as well. Bennett we should be able to get at a decent price. Barwin again should be able to get at a decent price. Jennings would be cheap, but the impact he would have on our young wide-out would be amazing!!!! Now I understand Cleveland is not a hot spot for FA, so we might hae to over pay for some of these players. If so I would over pay for Barwin and Byrd. Now 5 more than likely we can get to come to Cleveland 1. Ted Ginn, KR, 49ers. Age: 28. Ted Ginn didn't score a special-teams touchdown for the first time since 2008, but was still effective taking back punts. 2.Donald Thomas, G, Patriots. Age: 27. Donald Thomas didn't get to play very much behind Logan Mankins and Dan Connolly, but when he did, he definitely made the most of it. He could be a starter on many teams. 3.Derek Cox, CB, Jaguars. Age: 26 . Derek Cox would be ranked much higher if he were reliable. He's a talented cornerback, but he's missed 14 games in the past two seasons. The Jaguars have to be so frustrated with his inability to stay healthy. 4.William Hayes, DE, Rams. Age: 28. William Hayes could start for some teams, but he can't crack the lineup in St. Louis because of Chris Long and Robert Quinn. He's terrific against the run and can get to the quarterback on occasion. 5. Corey Lynch, S, Chargers. Age: 28. Corey Lynch is an awesome special-teamer who performed well as a starting safety down the stretch in place of an injured Atari Bigby.
The Gipper
Nice job. All positions of need. And Browns have a lot of cap space to go after some of these. Do we know when the FA period starts? (I believe these players become FAs after the SB...but when can signings start? I know is is before the draft)
Kosar_For_President
Don't think Jennings would be a good fit. I think Gordon will turn into a #1 to be honest and I think a Brian Hartline could come in and do very well. He is a Cleveland boy and would be a perfect fit with Gordon and Little. Catching 1,000 yards in that shit offense is not easy feat. Liked all the other ones though.
Lumbergh
2. Andy Levitre, G, Bills. Age: 27. Andy Levitre is a stud guard who excels in pass protection. He also showed off his versatility, playing decently at left tackle in some games in 2011. I would add that this Levitre guy has a good college background too. Also, you might want to add next year's starting QB to the list while you're at it. Next year's QB is currently completing his contract with the Panthers, 29yrs old I believe. tampadawgs
Other players I would not mind to add depth to some places on our roster La'Rod Stephens-Howling, RB/KR, Cardinals. Age: 26. La'Rod Stephens-Howling is far from a starting running back in the NFL, but he can serve as an OK third-down back while contributing as a return specialist. -Adding more weapons to Special teams never hurts, plus he is not a bad back up Phil Dawson, K, Browns. Age: 38. Phil Dawson showed no signs of his age this past season, nailing 29-of-31 attempts, including a perfect 7-of-7 from 50-plus. - I think this is a no brainer, have to re-sign Phil Martellus Bennett, TE, Giants. Age: 26. Martellus Bennett was solid all around for the Giants in terms of receiving and blocking. He proved that he can be a quality starting tight end in the NFL, so he'll be rewarded accordingly. Jerome Felton, FB, Vikings. Age: 27. Arguably the top fullback in all of football, Jerome Felton paved the way for Adrian Peterson's near-record-breaking season. dab7291993
I want Levitre, but I heard that Banner was one of the big reasons that Philly asked for DRC in the Kolb trade and could very well pull him to CLE. The reason the 2 shutdown corner thing in Philly didn't work is because they had no players to stop the run, Brian Rolle started a few games for them at LB. It can work here and I think we should go after Cromartie.

I would love it if we got Byrd and Cox to shore up our secondary. And, as somebody else noted, I would like Martellus Bennett at TE and re-sign Phil Dawson. That would be a pretty good FA IMHO. Ohh ya, add in Amendola or Hartline plus a solid draft and we'd be set.

mdmusch
The Browns need to throw the house at whoever the Bills do not sign out of their two players. Hopefully it's Byrd, but since his franchise tag is lower, I bet they'll let Levitre walk. I'm all for overpaying for Byrd and making him the highest paid safety in the league. He fills a huge need as a ballhawk next to ward.

ballpeen
It will be easier to discuss once we know who actually hits the market and which ones are actually free and aren't tagged with some round tender. I am not real big on signing guys if it requires giving away future picks. I am not saying you should never do it, but it does create some pause. I think that tag price would go into affect after the 2013 season. We looked it up in the NFLPA CBA and it's kind of hard to understand the language, because it is written by lawyers, for lawyers to read. But it is in article 10 if you would like to read it for yourself. http://nfllabor.files.wordpress.com/2010/01/collective-bargaining-agreement-2011-2020.pdf
