Sheepdog
As we all know, with new ownership comes new personnel. Here is a list of potential changes; PRESIDENT- It is looking like Holmgren will be out of a job sooner than expected so that guy from Philly can come in and take over as President, I think he name is Banner. GM- See Head Coach. HEAD COACH- Though Haslam has said that coaching consistency is key to success by no means does that mean that Shurmer's job is safe for the next 2-3 years. The only thing keeping Shurmer there is Holmgren and if he is gone then I can see Shurmer soon to follow. Banner will want someone he trusts. I definitely wouldn't complain if Haslam's Pittsburgh connections enabled the Browns to land Cowher who would probably also want to be GM. QB- McCoy was picked by the Mangini regime and we have seen what has happened to him after Holmgren, Heckert and took over. At this point next year we might be saying the same thing about Weeden unless he proves to be the gunslinger he was at OSU. With our rough schedule we have to be a favorite for the 1st overall pick next year and guess who is finally coming out, Matt Barkley from USC. It's going to be an interesting year. Frenchie
I'm with Sheep on this one. I really think we're going to have a rough ride with all these injuries and rookies. I do see us drafting high and perhaps we'll take a QB or WR or perhaps they'll see enough in Weeden and others to trade down, pick up a missing second rounder, and solidify our weak areas such as LB and a couple of quality linemen on each side of the ball. I could seriously see us picking up a LB free agent next year and signing two more during the draft. It's unfortunate that we're having these injuries because without them we might have been 6-10 or even 8-8. If H&H lose their job, I do hope we pick-up Cowher, and it would be because they depended almost 100% on the draft, when they needed both the draft and a little bit more FA to really field a competitive team. He was a minority owner. Minority owners don't do anything except fork over money and expect an eventual return. i'm sure he didn't have an office, and has probably never met Cowher. BendMeOver
HEAD COACH- Though Haslam has said that coaching consistency is key to success by no means does that mean that Shurmer's job is safe for the next 2-3 years. Haslam's Pittsburgh connection will land you Mike Wallace, if the Steelers can not sign him to a long term deal and/or franchise him. Cowher was gone when Haslam became a minority owner of the Steelers, so I doubt there's any connection between the two. The thing that I find interesting is that the while Brown's fans hate the Steelers/Steeler fans, that doesn't seem to be true in reverse. Steelers fans were upset when the Browns announced they were moving from Cleveland to Baltimore and wore orange bands to show their opposition to the move/support for Cleveland. The Rooney's played a key role in getting the Browns back into the league (especially when the league really wants an LA based team). Now the Rooney's played a key role in getting your absentee owner replaced with someone they feel will restore the Browns to a contender. So anyways, that gets me back to the subject of Cowher. I think the Rooney's would support Cowher going to the Browns, because Cowher is an excellent coach. Further, it will stir the pot between our teams fans which will rekindle our rivalry that has withered since your team's return. Our rivalry is good for both franchises and it's good for the league. Getting Cowher and winning with him, will begin to erase that "pity" Steelers fans have for your organization, especially since you've only been our speed bump these past 13 or so years. BendMeOver
I should add, that I don't think Cowher wants to come back to the NFL. After his wife died it appears that he'd rather spend more time with his children than than working 20 hours a day/7 days a week. Besides, I think he really likes his gig as a sports commentator. DieHardBrownsFan
Cowher ain't coming to Cleveland. He has a great job now, plenty of money and wants to spend time in NC with his family.
Soju
I dont want that bust in the making Matt Barkley. He's just a glorified Colt McCoy.
Sheepdog
@7moses7, my mistake about Holmgren picking McCoy. I didn't know that about Cowher's wife. I definitely don't think he is coming back now, maybe if his kids were out of the house.
