  1. Maine Residents Furious over $13M Tax Bill to Give Migrants Free Rent (breitbart.com) Residents of Maine are expressing their outrage over the state’s plans to spend $13 million on constructing apartment complexes for illegal border crossers where some could be afforded up to two years of free rent. The apartment complex plan — derisively labeled the “Taj Mahal” for illegals — took a lot of heat from residents of Brunswick during a February 20 city council meeting. The locals were upset over the fact that the same apartments that cost citizens between $1,800 and $2,300 a month were going to be handed out to illegals for free. “You have all these houses being built. That’s discrimination, in my eyes,” Maine resident George Bernier said, according to the Daily Mail. “Am I too white? Is that what it is? Do I work too much? What’s the discrimination factor?” “How can we give housing to anyone other than our Brunswick residents first?” he indignantly asked.

  8. Browns will host Vikings for joint practices this summer (usatoday.com) The Cleveland Browns have held joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles but will welcome the Minnesota Vikings to their facility this upcoming training camp. With the Browns set to face the Eagles this year, and possibly Week 1 in Brazil, they were forced to find a new team to work with. Head coach Kevin Stefanski has ties to the Vikings. At the same time, general managers Andrew Berry and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah are close from the time the now Minnesota general manager spent working under him in Cleveland. Looking to get better after an 11-win season in 2023, joint practices emulate more of a live-game scenario than preseason games do. Players go harder in 1-on-1 battles, and the competition is fierce. This was a natural fit for both sides to agree to. Additionally, Berry confirmed while speaking to the media at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine that the Browns would return to the Greenbriar for the first week of training camp again this summer.
  9. Browns restructure cornerback Denzel Ward's contract to save over $11 million in cap room, per report - CBSSports.com As is always the case at this time of year, NFL teams are making moves to get themselves compliant with the salary cap ahead of the new league year, which begins in mid-March. The Cleveland Browns have made their latest such move, restructuring the contract of star cornerback Denzel Ward, according to NFL Media. Ward, 26, was set to count against Cleveland's books for around $23.5 million, but after the restructure, that number will instead be approximately $12.1 million. The move saves Cleveland $11.359 million in 2024 salary, putting the Browns $3 million under the cap. They will surely make more moves to create additional space so they can sign free agents and eventually their draft class, but they can now head into the new league year without having to do anything else. Ward signed a five-year, $100.5 million extension back in 2022, and is under contract through the 2027 season. His cap hits at the moment are $12.1 million (2024), $24.6 million (2025), $30.5 million (2026) and $27 million (2027), though those figures are likely to change as the Browns continue to massage their cap in the future. With Deshaun Watson's fully-guaranteed contract weighing on their books like an anvil, the Browns will have to continually restructure and extend the contracts of other highly-paid players, and it seems likely that Amari Cooper will be next on that list. They can also restructure Watson's deal, but given his level of play since arriving in Cleveland, that seems unwise. An extension for tackle Jedrick Wills would also save the team ample space, while cutting ties with running back Nick Chubb -- one of the NFL's best players at his position but who is coming off a major injury that required two surgeries -- would save another $11.8 million. The Browns have options, but they also definitely still have some work to do with their roster.
