E Rocc
From the News Herald: Maple Heights at Mentor What: LEL Lake Division game When: 7, tonight Where: Jerome T. Osborne Sr. Stadium For the record: Considering the Division I, Region 1 playoff picture, the last three games for the Cardinals (4-3) are probably elimination scenarios, needing three wins to get into the top eight. Mentor is coming off a lackluster 21-7 win over Shaker Heights, but running back Mike Korecz continued his strong junior season with close to 200 yards and two touchdowns. Colton Wallace now has four interceptions in his last two games for the Cardinals. The Mustangs lost to Cleveland Heights, but got that win back after the Tigers had to forfeit, and are officially unbeaten at 7-0. Maple Heights would get a home playoff game in Division II, Region 6 if the season ended now. The Mustangs are as quick and athletic as any team on the Mentor schedule, led by standout quarterback Shaq Washington. Maple's also got the leading rusher in the area, Devonte Ransom at over a thousand yards. The Lake Division is supposed to be for the larger schools. Maple is probably the smallest in the LEL, but was moved up from the Erie after they didn't lose a division game for about four years. They return to the Erie next year to make room for Warren Harding. The Mustangs and Cardinals are also old rivals from the Greater Cleveland Conference days. Mentor's refusal to divide into two high schools had a lot to do with the GCC's split. Go Mustangs!
