mjp28 Posted October 23, 2021 Report Share Posted October 23, 2021 This part is troubling in ALL skilled trades and craftsmen, they're retiring faster than they can be replaced...... have for a few decades now. .......But on shipbuilding and maintenance, the index uses a troubling statistic that the numbers in the skilled labor force – welders and pipefitters – are shrinking and their wages dropping relative to inflation at a time when more workers would be needed to grow the fleet..... Could be and if the government uses the fake pandemic or at least the overblown pandemic and free money to allow people to sit on their ass businesses will find ways of doing grunt jobs without human beings. More people on the Dole Less jobs more votes for the party that leans more toward socialism. When it becomes clear that geese that lay golden eggs are in fact mortal the party will be over. WSS I spent about 20+ years in the steel business most in maintenance. Some jobs in some areas might be able to be replaced by computers and robots but most craftsman jobs need that hands on touch with a human brain 🧠 involved. I don't think anyone is fudging the pandemic numbers here or worldwide it just messed things up and tanked the economy on it's own. IF there were no pandemic Trump would have been reelected hands down. Civilians build the ships, not sailors. Blame it on shrinking budgets in the DON. Of course, we could hire a Chinese shipbuilding company to come to Norfolk and San Diego and build our ships.
