RE: Baker getting cut...  What are you smoking?  Mayfield had one interception the whole game, he was either trying to throw the ball away or hoping his receiver would come back for the ball.  

RE: scrambling QBs...   Mahomes is probably #2 in the NFL behind Lamar Jackson in scrambling ability, and unlike LJ he doesn't fumble when he runs.

boundary safety inverts in a cover 6 to take away Kelce.   I'm sure, without having read the posts, there are several well known whiny bitches about Woods on this board who complained.  Well this is an adjustment that worked.   The invert takes away Mahomes primary.  Which is kelce on the out from the #2.  KC LOVES running out breaking patterns with him to the boundary and they scored on one earlier.  This was Wood's adjustment/answer to that. 

You'll notice coverage being "married" (as Romo says) to the pass rush.  Instead of Mahomes being able to stand and deliver or at worst find his #2, he is now forced to escape and buy whatever time he can with his legs.

This is Mahomes, running for dear life and using every bit of his god-given arm strength to Brett Farve this ball downfield and inside.   Keep in mind, the offensive holding call on Tyreek earlier.  It was almost the exact same play design except Mahomes flushed back further behind the line.   It's almost like he hasn't met a threw he doesn't like.   But I guess when you're that talented you can get away with it on occasion.  The first one was almost picked, so please don't forget that.

Mahomes has ZERO choice but to put this back towards interior of the field.  Why? Because Johnny J beat Tyreek to the outside and with the "flow" of the escaping QB.   Football 101, NEVER Throw back across to the interior of the field.   Where there are execptions to every rule and Mahomes just so happens to be that exception.  If this is Big Ben it's a throw away, if it's Lamar it's a throw away, if it's Joey Buckets it's a throw away.  Mahomes might be the only QB in the NFL capable enough of making this throw but having a couple receivers who can actually adjust.  

When you're facing any "normal" QB, Johnny J played it right 99.9% of the time.  And if it's put outside as most QB's would attempt, then he gets a pick in his first career game in CLE.

But it wasn't, because he had the misfortune of going against probably the most lethal QB/WR combo in the NFL.    It's a fluky, lucky, incredibly stupid yet amazingly talented play.   So as I said earlier, you really just have to shake your head.  Because you SHOULDN'T see this sort of thing and outside of these two, you really don't at any level. 

JJ3 didn't get "toasted", "torched", "burned" or whatever stupid fucking adjective you'd like to toss out there.  He put himself in great position and Tyreek just made an all-pro play. You win some, like we did earlier forcing the near INT - and you lose some.... like this.   Nothing more, nothing less.

 

 

 

Now, has anyone besides myself put in the work to further understand the nuances to what we saw with the coverage, pass rush and alignments we saw on defense?    Or are you still firing from the hip and pretending to know what you're talking about?

I've been to Snowshoe several times when there was snow on the ground. It's a nice resort in the middle of nowhere. 

And some personal trivia. Remember the Bengals-Chargers deep freeze playoff game? That was nothing. We were at Snowshoe that day on top of the mountain and woke up to a balmy -28 degrees with a howling blizzard that put the wind chill in the vicinity of -70. Guys were getting frostbite in five minutes trying to start their cars. Needless to say, the coldest day I've ever experienced.

Thanks, I learn a lot from your posts on football. Somehow, I never learned the nuances and tech stuff etc sneaking out with my friends and playing sandlot football (lol). My friends would never let me run the ball, dammit, because of my reconstructed knee the summer after the ninth grade. But we had fun. We loved the game - especially in the rain. Thanks to them, I never got a serious injury to my knees. If only I had had my artificial knee back in those days. Just kidding.

I'm extremely worried about Tyrod running on us, but I'm very confident that if we get them into 3rd and long, we can hurt them...BADLY. Mahomes has an otherworldly ability to feel pressure and elude it. Tyrod is fast but can't side step and hit a man 20 yards down field on a rope. Clowney and My

Tyrod is fast but won't be able to elude pressure like Mahomes. Clowney was ungodly fast and Garrett was...well...Garrett. In my opinion the only reason we lost is because our playmakers didn't make plays. Game-changing plays. We needed a defensive score or sack-strip. Didn't get one. That 3rd down sack was close...but we needed ONE more.

I hate beating a dead horse, but it bears repeating Baker DIDN'T throw passes like Trevor yesterday, and he rarely does.  Your out of your damn mind if you think there's any conceivable way Baker could get cut- Eeyore. So just stop, and stop arguing with Tia- you're out of your league there son.   

His only interception in the Chiefs game came as he was being tackled and trying to throw the ball away. 

Next Gen Stat of the game: Baker Mayfield finished a perfect 8 for 8 for 151 yards on play-action passes, completed 12 of 19 attempts for 214 yards (and an interception) with a time to throw of 2.5-plus seconds, and completed 5 of 6 attempts for 88 yards against the blitz. BTW- 321 yards passing, 11.5 yard average, 97 QBR- same as that bum Tom Brady- you may have heard of him.  

Finally- we couldn't stop Mahomes scrambling? For the record, that's the same problem every other NFL team faces when they're playing the Chiefs.

I did hear an interesting stat today... apparently since Baker has entered the NFL in 2018, no QB has thrown more fourth quarter interceptions than him.

I'd be curious to see his career stats by quarter, but I can't find that breakdown.

I hate defending browns52 cause he's proven himself to be a whiny idiot in this thread (and many others) but I believe what he said about baker is being taken out of context here. He's not saying baker threw passes like Lawrence did.  This was in response to a post about how many points the Texans scored so I believe he's making the point that the Texans scored so many points because the of how many times Lawrence put the jags in compromising positions with his poor rookie throws and decisions.  He's saying in order for the Texans to score that much against us then baker would have to revert to playing like Lawrence (aka a rookie). Basically saying no reason the defense should struggle this weekend because baker won't put his defense in those compromising positions.

Ar the risk of getting a Capt. OBVIOUS....

If we're behind... which we were a lot when Baker was a pup, Ds ignore the run and PA... a/k/a Baker's game strength plus he still tends to press. I don't see this being the case in his opener's INT... the Defender simply got to his heel(s) just as he threw... Baker is elusive enough to slide in the pocket, but he's not fast enough to outrun LBs or speed DEs in the open field.
