THE BROWNS BOARD

Survey Black Friday

Haven't done one of these in a while.  Here you go:    Just give your answers or opinions:

1. Will the Browns make the playoffs?

2. Will both Chubb and Hunt carry for 100 yards each on Sunday v. Jags?  Can both of them get to 1000 yards for the season?

3. Which team will win the shitty NFC East?

4. It is rivalry time in college football.   What is the best college football rivalry...that is not OSU/Michigan?

5. Apparently Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr......who each were the greatest boxers going in their day,  are going to fight.  Is this really a thing that should happen?

6. Today is Black Friday.    Did you make any purchases....get any really good deals?

1. Yes and it’s going to be close. Ravens and Raiders are the threat for the wildcard both have favorable schedules to end the year.

2.  No and No.  It will be close Sunday but I could see get right game (fix things get Landry involved more) for the pass offense. Good weather for once and the opponent has secondary issues.

3. Washington.  Their D Front should do enough, they have a couple good backs and QB that plays smart football.

4. Alabama Auburn

5.  Absolutely.  I can’t wait.  I was huge Mike fan back in the day.

6.  New microwave.  Mine just went out yesterday morning.

1. Will the Browns make the playoffs?

Yes,  I think they will squeak in.  But they need to take care of business...expecially against the "bad" teams they are going to be facing, starting with Sunday.  It will also be incumbent upon them to get and stay healthy.

2. Will both Chubb and Hunt carry for 100 yards each on Sunday v. Jags?  Can both of them get to 1000 yards for the season?

I think they are a bit behind the 8 ball for both to get  1K rushing this year.  Chubb could, but  I think Hunt will likely get more of his yards in the passing game.  It would be nice to seem them both go for 100 this week....it would mean that a game plan is working and they are running roughshod over the Jags.

3. Which team will win the shitty NFC East?

Still think it will be Eagles. WTFs biggest competition.

4. It is rivalry time in college football.   What is the best college football rivalry...that is not OSU/Michigan?

Had to do some thinking here.  There are 3-4 candidates:   Auburn/Alabama;  ND/USC;  USC/UCLA used to be a big one (not so much now);  Don't forget Harvard/Yale...or Akron/Kent St.  lol.    Also, once upon a time Miami/FSU was the bomb.    But here is my answer:   Oklahoma/Texas

5. Apparently Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr......who each were the greatest boxers going in their day,  are going to fight.  Is this really a thing that should happen?

I guess.   At least it    has name power.   Can anyone name any of the current  Champions in the weight categories in boxing?  Even the heavyweights? Weren't there a couple of Russian brothers in there>

6. Today is Black Friday.    Did you make any purchases....get any really good deals?

No, not yet.  My wife has been talking about getting an new TV.   But unlike other years when she was out there at the crack of dawn, she hasn't even left the house.

By the way, has anyone run into this situation:

A couple of weeks ago  Walmart online advertised  a 50"  TV for $128.00   online sale only.....to start at  7:00 pm one day.  We decided we wanted to go for it.  So, at 7:00 pm I log into Walmart...and at 7:01 pm I click "buy".....and a message comes back  "This item is sold out".  I thought..what the actual fuck is going on here...that is complete bullshit.   How can we be shut out of this purchase 1 minute after the time?

Later, I talk to my son about it and he says:   what happens is that these "robots"  log on to these sales and they buy up everything all at once, selling out the offer.  What you will see then is that whomever controls the "robot" will  offer the item later on Ebay for a decent profit to themselves, but still under the usual retail price.    I would think there would be a law prohibiting this, but apparently not.

So, I guess scalping of this sort goes on for more than just sports tickets.    And, does this sort of thing also happen in the sports ticket market?

Sports tickets sales-   Not really.  For instance, Stubhub will offer sets of tickets (they name the exact location) they are all at different prices. Some are great deals others not so much.  Once the ticket or tickets are sold at that price - they don’t appear in the listing anymore.  Now I guess if you bought stubhub tickets at a great price you could turn around an re-list those tickets at a higher price.

There are stories of ticket fraud (fake tickets) on stub hub.  My near fraud experience happened strangely with Ticketmaster.  I bought a set of tickets last year for Niner Browns Monday Night game and right before kick these Niner fans thought we were in their seats.  Well we were in their seats but they had seats for a Niner game that would take place a month later.  Somehow they got in stadium.  When the attendant rescanned their tickets at the gate they were escorted out.  Ha!!!

with the TV Couldn’t Walmart have a TV or maybe 3 TVs at that price and sell out at 7:00 with the common disclaimer supplies are limited (customers never know the true number of supplies).  Anyway there are always lots of TV deals at this time and you don’t have to wait until cyber Monday.

Interesting that we have so many divergent opinions on the best college rivalry  (behind OSU/Mich).  So far we have:

Alabama/Auburn

Notre Dame/USC

Texas/Oklahoma

Army/Navy

Any more out there:

And Russ(Balpeen) ....what is up with the Florida trilogy rivalries?  Have they diminished somewhat?   (who is Florida's biggest rival?  FSU or Georgia?....I don't think they ever play Miami, do they?

We still play Miami, just not every year anymore.  We played them last year and year before.  We now sign home and home deals.  We next play in 2024 &25.  Minus this year where non-conference games were canceled, we play FSU every year to end the season.  I think the advent of the BCS era  made it a disadvantage to schedule two typically strong programs on a annual basis.  Which is more of a rivalry?  Probably about equal to be honest.  We all hate each other..lol

Teams that I always thought that Ohio State could have natural rivalries with:

1. Michigan obviously

2. Penn State,  neighboring states and now do play every year

3. Indiana, neighboring states.   Play every year, but Indiana could just never compete....but it seems they are getting much better

4. West Virginia.   Neighboring state....and about the same distance as UM is from Columbus., but they never play. Only about 10 miles further than Ann Arbor.

5. Kentucky.  Neighboring state.....Also, Lexington KY is a few miles closer to Columbus than Ann Arbor but they are focused to the south, not the north.

6. Ohio University.  An obvious natural rivalry, but they just don't play on the same level.  OU is more like a "little brother" that they occasionally beat up on.

7. Notre Dame.  Probably the top two programs in the Midwest.  But they almost never play.  I think they played once in like 1935 and again a couple of times in the 90s.   They may have also played a bowl game.   I believe Woody Hayes was actually a fairly big fan of ND, and he said that he did not want the fans of either..or both schools to have to choose between them.

Are you trying to claim that this is now some kind of a rivalry game for you now?  That is a pretty lame excuse for ducking out on playing Texas.

F Texas. LSU has always been an as good or better team than those cheating putzes. Their AD was the reason 4 teams deserted that conference. He was trying to make everyone else play with pawns against a board of queens. Those teams got tired of it and OU would have also gone to the Pac 12 if only the Pac-12 would have also accepted Ok.St.which they would not. The SEC does revenue sharing regardless of how good or bad a team you have. Texas's AD was unwilling to do so. Plus they tried to use the Longhorn Network to gain recruits by broadcasting the HS games of the ones they wanted most. That was the final straw for Mo. and A&M, so they contacted the SEC to ask if the prior offer was still good. The NCAA stepped in and ruled that a recruiting violation, but the cows were already out of the barn. Neb and Colo. had already fled by the time Mo. and A&M made their decisions.

So, what you are saying is that  TAMU could not compete at the same game,  so they took their ball to someone else's court.

I always though WV would have been a better choice to join the Big 10 over Rutgers.  When the heck has Rutgers done anything, but I get it, the Big 10 wanted to expand market towards the east coast viewers. In todays world, that plays a BIG part.  Kentucky could, but they are a weakling in football most years.  OSU doesn't need it for recruiting.  They can probably recruit Kentucky better than Kentucky can.  Speaking of Kentucky...I thought Louisville would have been a nice addition to the Big 10.

Oh, yea.  The Big Ten wanted that NY market.   And the same for Maryland joining....getting the DC/Baltimore market. Getting large markets is the thing.   I guess if they want to expand more they should get Boston College to join, and maybe Connecticut then they would have that large market as well, more so than Louisville.

I wonder how much of the Pittsburgh market they have.  While there is Pitt in the ACC....Penn St. is pretty big in Pittsburgh as well.  Fair to say.

And, they obviously have  the Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Chicago, Milwaukee, Twin Cities , Indianapolis markets as well.  And Cincinnati too.

West Virginia is too lenient in who they allow in their program, and the Big Ten didn't want them dragging down their academic record.

Apparently if they spot you the C and the A, and you can spell cat, you are capable of being a Mountaineer football player.

That is true.   I have checked that out and WVa.  is not in the same academic league as the Big Ten schools.

But, Ohio State could still play them on occasion in a non-conf. game.

I guess they did actually play once a couple of decades ago:
