It's true - the panic buying around here was amazing. What is sad, is with a new shipment of Toilet paper, people were taking as many big packs as they could, in 2 and 3 shopping carts. it was nuts. I took a picture of the bread isle - 95% of the space I figured, was empty.

In AMERICA? We STILL can't find lysol spray. I found out it comes in to the drug store on Wednesdays. I went on a Thurs afternoon, and it was all gone.

    And this is months later !

I'm getting a bit more of a prepper. God help us if we hit a major depression or a grid shutdown....

To be fair to both sides of the political argument, Cal, Trump and his administration did fuck up their handling of COVID to a significant degree too. While I can understand the rationale of intentionally downplaying COVID, that doesn't mean I necessarily agree with that action. Trump downplaying this is similar to his administration's flip-flopping on masks early in the pandemic. These things do not help if your goal is to prevent widespread panic.

 I think if there was dishonesty here it was more along the lines of puffery. I don't think the president had much of an idea that this pandemic was going to turn out as badly as it did. Including the governor of New York and the mayor of New York saying if you want to go on a cruise, go on a cruise.  it's kind of silly to think that even if the president had come on television and beseech the American public not to hoard masks it would have overridden human nature to do it. Remember when Cuomo started the panic over the lack of ventilators and he was given hundreds if not thousands of ventilators that lawn up sitting in storage rooms? Like hand sanitizer and toilet paper these panics have a mind of their own regardless of what Donald Trump says. Not only that but do we all remember the press conference in which the doctor was grilled as to why he wasn't wearing a mask? He himself got a little bit snarky with reporter informing them that everybody in that room is tested over and over and he didn't need to wear one. Furthermore he told the reporter did The Mask doesn't protect the wearer it protects others and nobody in the room I tested positive for the virus. And this is the same doctor Who is pretty much universally looked to as the leading expert in the field. and he wasn't even doing what you expect the president to have done.

 I don't see any real lack of transparency. Nothing exactly like this has ever happened before. The president doesn't have the authority to shut down the country no matter what Vice President Biden might have thought before his handlers straightened him out. And again if you remove the politics remember that we are Americans and don't like being told what to do. The only hurricane I ever experienced was Andrew I played Key West right after it. Most of the people never evacuated. It's a rare occasion that people evacuate when instructed to in the face of a hurricane. They just don't. So even if the president had gone on television and ordered people not to hoard masks or supplies I told everyone they had to wear them 24/7 and unconstitutionally ordered businesses restaurants and everything closed... You know and I know they wouldn't follow those instructions. Nothing the president could have done or said would make the people who oppose him happy. That's not just in this situation but everyone for the last four years. And again bottom line if doctor F was as off base as he was then how can you expect everyone in America to be in lockstep when he changes his mind Weeks Later? Especially when the result of listening to his revised guess involved completely destroying their own livelihoods?

Frankly do you see people like Hoorta or the Woodpecker or or tex being gung ho to follow whatever recommendation President Trump makes? I don't either. And one more thing.
