Players being little Bitches

Recommended Posts

So, here is what I understand the holdup is about opening the season:

The players want to be paid pro-rata salaries based on the number of games they would play this season.     In other words,  the want   X/162 of their salaries. If they played 100 games, it would be 100/162ds of their pay.

But....the owners are saying:   We can't afford to do that because,  of those  X  games to be played,    Y number of them will be played with no fans in the stands.   And the fact is,  Baseball, far far more than football, and much more than basketball relies on their  gates as a major part of their revenues.  And they say that they can't pay players on per rata game basis, if they have no game day revenue.

The owners have said,  either:   A. Agree to come up with some formula for pay that would be equitable, given that many games may have no attendance;   or  B.  Wait to play the season until the corona virus threat is over and games can be played with fans in the stadium.

The Players are being little bitches and do not want to see the sense in this.   They want full compensation for all games played...regardless of what the revenue situation is for those game.

So, it sounds to me like they are cutting their nose off to spite their face.    They, apparently, would rather not play....and get probably -0-  salary for this entire year than be paid some reasonable compensation based on  revenue coming in.

Whenever there is a lot of money and jobs on the line and push comes to shove there will be some big tensions and posturing.  And in this case not a lot of time to work with.

It will be interesting to see how it works out.
