THE BROWNS BOARD

So there's a UFA tender rule, too?

I was looking at the "Top 100" FAs still unsigned when I came across this article at the bottom of the page:

Giants reportedly elect to place seldom-used UFA tender on Markus Golden and here's what it means

We haven't seen this tactic used in three years

If I knew there was such a thing, I'd forgotten it.

These seem to be the impacts...

  • if he remains unsigned past July 22, he can only play this season for the Giants -- who would maintain the pass rusher's exclusive rights.
  • can still negotiate with other teams to sign a new deal.
  • if he does sign with another club, he would count towards the 2021 compensatory pick formula.
  • Golden would get a one-year deal that includes a 10 percent raise if he ends up signing the tender.
  • he has until the Tuesday after the 10th week of the season to re-sign with the Giants.
  • i f he does not, he must sit out the rest of the season.
