It is very disturbing; but Rookie (backup) C Nick Harris should be able to back-up both Guards as well.  Back in 2000, the undrafted Shaun O'Hara started off as a backup Center and Guard.

The position group that scares me the most and our opponents the least is Linebacker. It feels like we're asking 3 Dog Night to come play us some LBer in life after marijuana and music.

Having said that, if we use 3 LBs instead of 2 - it should make their responsibilities a little more reasonable.  Mack Wilson went from very good defensive schemes at Bama to a Defensive scheme that thought 2 LBers is a good idea in the NFL.  That couldn't have been a fun NFL learning curve for the guy.

Majority offensive snaps in the NFL are 11 personnel.  Therefore a majority of defensive snaps in the NFL are nickel sets.   So.... Yeah.  It's a pretty good idea.

My contribution - watching newly signed MJ Stewart.

I'm not seeing an outside corner.  I'm actually not seeing a corner at all.

From what I read he has safety skillset. Might not make the team, probably giving him a looksie because he's a former second rounder with playing experience, but I don't know where he fits in.

It's not so much the skillset I see, but the skillset I don't see.  That sudden burst, the smooth lateral change of direction and hip fluidity in all good corners - I just don"t see it here.  I haven't even checked out his listed speed, but I would doubt he's a mid 4.4 runner.

His build and downhill pursuit scream hash, but just "moving" from CB to S isn't a transition as easy and common as many make it sound.

I'll be interested to see how Stef & Berry sort out the skill positions.  No track record with them.  We know Stef likes his TE's.  And he likes to run anywhere along the LOS.  I don't really see a good blocking TE in the bunch though.  Probably keep four.

At RB, LeMay is the little bowling ball of the bunch.  Would he have a shot to be the third back?  I think Hunt is a better receiving back than Hilliard.  I'm guessing we only keep three since they'll probably keep one of the FB's on the roster.

We've got a lot of WR's but I don't know how certain Higgins, Ratley or Hodge are  of making the team.

Maybe I grade to harshly? 🤓..On paper... 7-8 players on this offense could start elsewhere & am excluding Baker for now... But good lord look at that Defense! 👀 So I'll ask again..How many could start elsewhere not named Myles Garrett on this Defense?.....   Richardson? Ogun? Ward? Joesph?  Vernon? Any LB'er? Could they start for the Jets? Giants? Jags? Bengals? And those Teams are not feared by anyone in this league...

Btw, Good Friday Morning! And the 10 Padded practices can't come soon enough 🏈.. Good Luck, Joe Woods!  😇

Edit-- Chip Banks..get well champ! 🙏

Start elsewhere?  You mean like, anywhere?  I would say that they all could start elsewhere, somewhere.

So here's what I saw after cutting up on Browns Daily Camp day 1 👀

1.) Wills has the tree trunk leg view over Conklin.. With Baker under center..LT-Wills LG-Bitonio C-Harris(tretter was out) RG-Teller RT-Conklin//// Two's= With Kenum under center..LT-Hubbard LG-Willie Wright C-Evan Brown RG-Dunn RT-Lamm ///Fair played LG3 with Gilbert under Center. And for what's it's worth? Carlson & P.Brown played TE3's

2) Hooper & Njoku TE1's//Njoku & Harrison Bryant TE2's with Keenum//TE3's P.Brown & Carlson.. Having a good look at Njoku, imho..  WR DPJ, had a nice high point of ball thrown by Keenum with the 2's

3) Sandejo & Joesph ran against the 1's..Delpit & Redwine saw 2's..Mack Wilson & Taki shared reps with both..

4) Misc? CB Kevin Johnson had a nice press coverage pick. Than got beat deep by Keenum throwing a bomb to Hodge. Tavierre, Hodge, JoJo, DPJ & many other DB's & Lb'ers, may make this squad by ST's?..The extra bonus of position of need? Is what Josh Cribbs will find interesting at cut time

Only Day 1..Things can Change & more likely will...Were off today & back at it Sunday for Day 2...

So, what is this "Slot" position on defense?   Is it actually anticipated that the Browns will be going with a 4-2-5 defense as their standard defense?

It's the nickelback. I don't think we'll have three linebackers on the field more than 10 percent of the time, we didn't last year.

I think we keep 3 QBs active in Mayfield, Keenum, and Gilbert.  Davidson sticks to the Practice Squad.

My take on that is that with the new rules, you can put veterans on the practice squad, and you can protect up to four guys on the practice squad and acitivate them right up to the morning before the game, so I see most teams keep 2 QBs and stashing their third on the protected practice squad list. So Gilbert goes to PS and Davidson goes home.

And didn't that brilliant formation have them near dead last in rush D?

Did they mainly run with only  2 LBs last year?  I don't know if I recall that.  Joe Woods taking over for Steve Wilks.  Don't know if he is going to follow the same pattern.

With Wilson perhaps out....we don't have more than 2 decent LBs that we can play, do we?

Takitaki.  Goodson.  And who knows about the rookie Phillips.

We could end up having 4 of our rookies starting:  Wills,  Harris (Tretter being hurt),  Delpit,  Phillips.

Does that seem like a lot of rookies for a team that hopes to contend?

It seems like it. This means they need some vets to step up to provide leadership. It is a must.

Our D-coordinator last year was a 2 LB'er guy.  And yes, our run D wasn't great...and got progressively worse.

I'm not 100% sure what to make of the 2 LB'er thing.  I always felt that they were a liability on pass plays where they had to cover TE's or RB's.   (we haven't been able to cover a TE this century)

And I'll never forget ballpeen's comment on another board, "Us blitzing is like running 1 or 2 of our players off the field".   Still makes me laugh.   Now, of course, with Myles, we have a better DL so that when we blitz it IS more difficult for the OL.
