These are easy moves, not losing much talent. The real, significant moves will come with Hunt and OBJ. Yes, tons of talent but I believe it will be addition by subtractions.

If they want real hope, the soul of the team must be altered in a real way. But, I'm not sure it can be if Mr. Jimmy still owns it.

Hunt is talented, but overly dumb. Who knows when is next event is coming. OBJ just not happy, and more distractions are on their way. Get rid of both and create more cap space, then in the draft go:

LT 1.

DT 2.

OG 3.

RB 4. (or later, just need depth)

S, LB.

I don't think we release Hurt or OBJ.  We will tag Hunt.  If he gets a offer we don't like, we will take the pick.  OBJ is at most trade bait.  We will listen to offers, but I don't think Stefanski wants him to go.

Vernon is the interesting question.   We might release him.  $15.5 is a lot for a guy who hasn't played much the last 2-3 years.  That doesn't mean he won't be able to this year.   That is the tough decision of the off-season.  We don't have anybody behind him unless you are related the Chad Thomas.

Scripting like this without knowing knowing who is going to be available when those picks are on the clock is a recipe for a disastrous draft.

I think it more a poster ranking needs as they see them.  No doubt you have to see who is available.  If Simmons is there when we pick, it would be hard to pass on him to take the 3rd or 4th best LT.  That is why scouting and the FO have to have 2nd tier and 3rd tier guys laid out on the horizontal draft board.

One also has to consider what happened in free agency.  That is where you address needs.  At least to me, the 2nd round pick is where you might lean on your horizontal board a bit more, but even then, if you have to drop more than 2-3-4 slots on the vertical board, you are probably making a mistake.

The only real exceptions are early if you need a QB and late if you need a kicker of some sort or a long snapper.

It was assumptive tha BPA would be factored in. Jebus Christmas on a popsicle stick. Some live to whine.

Shall we take a poll as to which of the above sound like whining?

Kirksey signs with Green Bay, two years $16 million.

Happy trails to Kirksey 2/$16M to go to the Packers. Not too shabby.

Report: CB Donovan Olumba to Sign With Browns

https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-browns/Article/Report-CB-Donovan-Olumba-to-Sign-With-Browns-145254171/

ByJared Mueller 55 minutes ago

The Cleveland Browns have added a lot of players to their roster so far in free agency and, according to a report from his agent, the team has added cornerback Donovan Olumba:

Olumba is an interesting add for the Browns. At 6'2" and just over 200 pounds, he is an outside cornerback primarily and fits the mold of corners that the Seattle Seahawks have used for a long time. That system is one Browns defensive coordinator Joe Woods has an affinity for. Woods spent the last few seasons with Richard Sherman who came to prominence in that system.

https://www.cleveland.com/browns/2020/03/trent-williams-still-an-option-for-the-browns-odell-beckham-not-on-the-block-anthony-harris-not-in-the-cards-more.html

1. Redskins left tackle Trent Williams is still a possibility for the Browns

The Browns explored trading for Williams after the Redskins gave him permission to seek a deal two weeks ago. He is still a possibility if the Redskins lower their asking price and/or if Williams is willing to accept less in an extension. If the Browns surrender a higher pick, they’d likely want a longer-term deal, which would effectively take them out of the strong left tackle market in the draft.

There are other things to consider with Williams, including the fact that he’ll be 32 on July 19. But his former Redskins offensive line coach Bill Callahan is now with the Browns in that capacity, and thinks highly of Williams.

A seven-time Pro Bowler, Williams would give the Browns a player the caliber of Joe Thomas, and Baker Mayfield’s blind side would be set for years to come. Williams is currently under contract for $10.85 million in 2020 and $12.5 million in 2021, and his market value, according to spotrac.com, is three years, $45.77 million, or about $15.25 million a year.

I’m also told that the cancerous growth removed from his head is not a concern.

2. Odell Beckham Jr. not on the trading block

Former Jets and Ravens linebacker Bart Scott grabbed a few headlines last week when he proclaimed on his ESPN radio show “Bart and Hahn” that Odell Beckham Jr. is on the trading block.

But it’s currently not the case and hasn’t been.

“Just know you heard it here first,” Scott said. “I’m telling you right now, Odell Beckham is on the trading block and it’s real right now.”

Berry and coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear at the NFL combine that Beckham is a key part of their future, and owner Jimmy Haslam stated that he anticipates that Beckham will be a “big, big producer” for the Browns in 2020. Berry did say he’d listen to offers for Beckham, but he’s not actively trying to trade him.

3. Anthony Harris not in the cards right now

The Browns explored a trade last week for Vikings franchised safety Anthony Harris, but he’s not in the cards at this point.

The Browns made that clear when they signed safeties Karl Joseph and Andrew Sendejo to one-year deals last week. In addition to a source telling cleveland.com that the Vikings would want at least a third-round pick for Harris and probably a second, he’d also likely want double-digit millions on an extension. Both things are too rich for the Browns right now.

With Harris tagged, there’s also no sense of urgency to force the issue right now. They could always revisit it down the road depending on what they do in the draft.

4. Olivier Vernon and Chris Hubbard still kicking

The first week of free agency came and went with Vernon still on the roster at $15.5 million for 2020 and right tackle Chris Hubbard still on the books for $6.15 million for this season despite the fact he lost his starting job to Jack Conklin.

Vernon’s salary is the highest on the team, but if he can stay healthy in 2020, he provides a good complement to Myles Garrett, and the Browns would probably rather pay him that than give potentially more to free agent Jadeveon Clowney, who originally wanted $20 million a year despite notching only 3.0 sacks in 2019.

As for Hubbard, he has a good chance to stick around as the Browns’ swing tackle and can fill in at guard if necessary.

And thus ends Bart Scott's latest 15-minutes...

Hubbard looks like fairly expensive OT depth until you consider that 1/3rd of his 2020 price tag is dead money.

Browns bring back TE Pharaoh Brown as exclusive rights free agent

https://brownswire.usatoday.com/2020/04/20/browns-bring-back-te-pharaoh-brown-as-exclusive-rights-free-agent/

It was more of a paperwork formality than any great question, but the Cleveland Browns have officially brought back tight end Pharaoh Brown for the 2020 NFL season.

Brown signed his exclusive rights free agent offer extended by the team. As an ERFA, Brown could not negotiate with other teams unless the Browns refused to give him a qualifying offer to remain in Cleveland. The Browns did that, and now the tight end is locked up for another season.

Brown, who turns 26 in May, caught two passes for 27 yards in 2019. He was acquired off the Raiders practice squad in 2018 but never made it to the Browns active roster until last fall. He is a Cleveland native.
