That's not exactly his surname, but close enough. And he does have me blocked when I did a Face Book search- but I did find a few references to his posts (like on his water treatment stuff) to say with certainty I have the last name right.  :)  As I found out real quick working with a bunch of Ukrainians at Reilly Chemical in Cleveland- don't ever call a Ukrainian a Russian- the hatred is mutual.

Yes he is definitely a Uke in fact my mother in law knew his parents who went to our Byzantine Ukrainian Catholic Church in Youngstown Ohio on Rayen Ave.

He also went to YSU while I was there.  And according to what I've read when he went to pursue his polka music career he was an a**hole there too.

Byzantine and Catholic at the same time? That sounds weird to me. If it's Ukranian maybe it was greco-catholic?

Ukranian or Yukon Jackasss?

It's too bad we couldn't just keep him in here in the barb wired kennel Zombo had him in.  He allowed him 1 thread that people could enter at their own risk and kept him out of other threads.

I didn't really get to know who Dutch was until his reactions to Ghoolie turned him into the funniest smart asss this board has had since Lumberg...  That wasn't a bad dynamic at all IMO.

Eastern Orthodox.  After all, it was Constantine who legitimized Christianity....and the Eastern Orthodox version was likely the original "sanctioned" version of that religion.  Constantinople (Istanbul) was named for him.

Had just read the ESPN article prior to logging in here...

Garrett's claim is plausible. From MG's account it would seem Rudolph would have said it while trying to pull off MG's helmet... while both were on the  ground. No one else, i.e., another Steeler, would have been in position to hear the lil bitch.

Add the crowd noise swelling as the play ended and the action on the ground became the focus and you can eliminate the on-field mics.

I believe MG.

Our original church is Byzantine Rite along with our newer sister church in Austintown, Ohio church  St. Anne's Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church.

Here is the brief story of our original Holy Trinity Church on Rayen Ave that I attended when I was young.  We now go to the St Anne's church.  http://www.holytrinityucc.com/about-us.html

.......In about 1876, the first immigrants from what is today Ukraine arrived in America.  A second contingent of immigrants began to arrive during the early 1880s from the Galicia (Halychyna) region of Western Ukraine.

Not finding many eastern-rite Catholic churches upon their arrival in this area, many immigrants from Ukraine initially attended Roman Catholic churches closest in ethnic character to their own, usually Polish or Slovak.

In Youngstown, some of our early pioneers attended the Divine Liturgy at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church, but eventually most attended the only Byzantine Rite church in the Youngstown area at the early part of the 20th century, St. Mary’s Carpatho-Ruthenian Parish located on Salt Springs Road.  Here the majority of national groups of the Byzantine Rite Catholics including the Carpatho-Ruthenians, Hungarians, Romanians, Serbians and Ukrainians attended this parish, and here many of our first pioneers were married and had their children baptized.  The Divine Liturgy was celebrated in Old Slavonic and sermons were preached in Ruthenian and Hungarian.  Many of our early Ukrainian Catholic immigrants attended church even though they had to walk long distances or take the street car from the outer sections of the city.  Attending church also satisfied a great social need, for it was the only opportunity for fraternizing and to discuss personal, as well as mutual issues.

1881
One of our first Ukrainian immigrants in the Youngstown area was George Glazzy, who came to the United States in 1881 and settled in Youngstown in 1887.

Upon his arrival in Youngstown, George Glazzy and other early immigrants had longed to be in their own church.  By the year 1909, when approximately one hundred and fifty Ukrainian families had settled in the Youngstown vicinity, they determined there were enough people to sufficiently support a church-parish of their own.  To plan and formulate this project, many meetings were held, the result of  which culminated in seeking the services of Rev. Stephanovich of St. John the Baptist Parish, in Pittsburgh.  This was the closest Ukrainian church to the Youngstown area.

Fr. Stephanovich came to Youngstown to celebrate the first Divine Liturgy for the Ukrainian Catholic families at Diebel Hall, located on West Federal Street.  He and encouraged the people to retain their strong faith and devotion and prayed that their dreams of hearing the Divine Liturgy, celebrated in their own church, be fulfilled as quickly as possible.

The people, encouraged and inspired by the words of Fr. Stephanovich, petitioned Bishop Soter Ortynsky to assign a priest to the new parish, and in the year 1909, Bishop Ortynsky assigned Rev. Michael Balogh to the first pastor of Holy Trinity.  Through his efforts, the property of the present church was purchased.

For a time, Rev Balogh celebrated the Divine Liturgy in Diebel Hall and later at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Hall.  Rev. Balogh only ministered the parish until December of 1909.  Rev Basil Zacerkovny was appointed to the infant parish.  Rev Zacerkovny hastened the plans for building a church and with Rev. Olrich Zlamal of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Church, and other early pioneers, the architectural firm of Miller and Ford from Youngstown, was engaged to draw up the plans and specifications.  Bids for the church edifice were sent out and a few weeks after bid acceptance, construction on the church began.

1911
The church was officially incorporated in the State of Ohio on January 17, 1911. The cornerstone of the church edifice was laid and it was blessed by Bishop Ortynsky on November 12,  1911. During the construction period, two major delays were encountered as a result of a shortage of funds, and by January of 1912, the basement of the church was completed, which then became the place of worship for parishioners........for much more see the link......

There is indeed  a Byzantine  Rite, and many others that are officially considered  Catholic.  We even had one of their services in our Catholic  HS, it's a  lot different than a  Catholic  Mass, their Communion and rite is considered  the "real thing" by the Popes and Roman  Catholic  Church,  unlike  all  Protestant  congregations.

Besides it being St. Valentine's Day today, it's also the feast day of Sts. Cyril & Methodious, early missionaries to Eastern Europe.  Also gave us the cyrillic alphabet,  though it was  later modified,  and it drove  me nuts trying to  learn Russian.  Recalibrate- "C" is an "S", "P" is an "R", other assorted strange letters, and consonant combinations you never see in English like czry.  :)

So the CCCP you saw on early Russian cosmonauts helmets was SSSR translated for us Americans.  Soviet Socialist Republic.

Plus, he plays for the Browns. Push comes to shove, I believe Myles too, though.

But if this was about Baker and a black Steelers player, I can guarantee you this board would be going ballistic in defense of Baker if he was accused of this.

But fuck Mason Rudolph.

Every person in that locker room holds him in high regard. I honestly can't imagine he'd lie about this, and his reasoning for not bringing it to everyone's attention right when it happened makes sense.

...But yeah, he's a Brown, so i'll support him through and through. Our cross to bear.

I do too and honestly it's likely a lot to do with the fact he's a brown.  However there are other reasons. He seems to be a humble high character guy other than this incident. Secondly the fact the nfl didnt say they have audio and they didn't hear anything. In fact they said there was no audio of the altercation at all. Every offensive guard wears mics during games to pick up field sound/cadence. Even if they weren't close enough that would mean out of all the parabolic mics on the field/sideline not a single one of them was pointed at Rudolph and Garrett. I just find that very hard to believe there was absolutely no audio of the altercation.

All that said until proven otherwise it will and should be viewed by most that Garrett just flew off the handle.

Dear God,

I may know you. To the left of this church was the old rectory. The newer rectory is behind the church as an addition. Across the street is the school.

Monsignor Adamiak was the pastor for decades. Died some time ago.

Years ago St.Anne's was built in Austintown to accommodate the large congregation. Today neither church can fill the pews on a Sunday. Sad.

Pat Bilon...the midget who played E.T. in the movie E.T. was Ukrainian and attended mass here. Also long time deceased.  Out of curiosity one Sunday after mass I took a peek inside his car. I believe it was a Chevy Nova. I remember the brake and gas pedals being situated just under the steering wheel.

Plus he makes it clear in the interview that he should have had better control of himself no matter what he heard. He did not complain about the ensuing punishment for his own transgression.

It's absolutely amazing how those old timers many just "off the boat" of all nationalities and religions pulled together both here in the Mahoning Valley and all over North America to build these beautiful places of worship.  The architecture and craftsmanship were absolutely stunning.

Many were celebrating their right to worship with no new or old political pressures on who and what to believe in.

They were also gathering spots for people like my grandfather to get a start in America, his first job was in Youngstown Ohio.  They had it real tough and had to work really hard to set a foundation for the next generation, America's Greatest Generation to survive the great depression, fight in WWII and come home to literally build America.

We older Boomers are the recipients of all their hard work.

It's a shame when one of these beautiful old churches get torn down. -but-  there are no no parishes left to support them.  Repairs on these old buildings generally run in the hundreds of thousands of dollars and no persons or governments can fund that with no good end use.

So we watch them go one by one, our thanks to those who's dreams and hard work built them..............          ;)

Here in Dayton  our Polish Church  recently  closed. :( It sustained some damage in  our May  tornado  outbreak,  and there was no viable option to  pay for the  repairs.  There have been many ethnic churches  in Cleveland that have  either been  torn down or closed  due to changing  demographics.

As the older generations  pass on, a lot of the culture and history  go with them. Great grandma only knew a few words  of English,  grandma knew and was fluent in  Czech, my mom and  dad had  an understanding of  the  language,  I know  a few words.

Spin  things 60 years forward to today, and the millenials would  wonder if the station had lost their  minds showing  Gene Carroll's Polka Varieties as a lead in to the Sunday Browns  game.  PS- my talented cousins  appeared on the show  many times.

Garrett shoulda shut his fucking mouth while he was ahead.

Hint at lawsuit.

Tomlin and his sissy boy QB respond..."Garrett a bold faced liar".

https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/mason-rudolph-mike-tomlin-respond-to-myles-garretts-latest-slur-allegations-as-agents-hint-at-legal-action/

"I support Mason Rudolph not only because I know him, but also because I was on that field immediately following the altercation with Myles Garrett, and subsequently after the game," Tomlin said. "I interacted with a lot of people in the Cleveland Browns organization -- players and coaches. If Mason said what Myles claimed, it would have come out during the many interactions I had with those in the Browns' organization. In my conversations, I had a lot of expressions of sorrow for what transpired.

Garrett has to let this go... There are no winners in this dog hunt.. Garrett comes off looking like sissy with all of the bitch whining.. I've been called WOP,Dago and Guinnea throughout my life.. But I never cried wolf or started drama because of it.. I just disarm people like.. When they call me a Dago.. I just smile and say "Don't ever forget it" And then curtly saunter off about my bizz...  But I'm thinking.. Players are now gonna bait Garrett and use the N word... I wonder how he's going to handle that... He's not using his head right now..... I see this ending with ugly results..

You throw tantrums on here whenever someone disagrees with you, but you "curtly saunter off about my bizz" when someone calls you a dago, wop or guinea to your face?
