THE BROWNS BOARD

Scribbles from Andrew Gribbles - 10 Prospects to Watch

Here's a cut and paste of 10 players the Browns should have had their eyes on at the Senior Bowl.

G Ben Bredeson - Michigan (6-5, 325)

He's the top-rated guard in the draft, according to ESPN draft expert Mel Kiper Jr. He was a second-team All-American and was considered the best pass-blocking guard in college football last year, according to Pro Football Focus.

S Ashtyn Davis - Cal (6-1, 200)

Davis might just be the best safety available behind two underclassmen in this year's draft class -- Clemson's Isaiah Simmons and LSU's Grant Delpit -- who are projected to go in the top half of the draft. Davis collected seven interceptions over his final three seasons with the Bears.

S Kyle Dugger - Lenoir-Rhyne (6-2, 220)

He played in just seven games as a senior, but it was enough to earn the Cliff Harris Award, given annually to the best Division II defensive player. Dugger was also a stud on special teams, racking up 929 punt return yards and six touchdowns over his career.

TE Brycen Hopkins - Purdue (6-5, 245)

The Nashville native shined in his fifth year with the program, catching 61 passes for 830 yards and seven touchdowns. He had at least one catch of 50 yards or longer in three of his four seasons, including a 72-yarder in 2019.

DT Javon Kinlaw - South Carolina (6-6, 310)

Kinlaw might just be the top overall prospect in this year's game. The interior pass rusher is ranked second at his position by Kiper and is projected by some to come off the board in the first half of the first round.

OT Josh Jones - Houston (6-7, 310)

The three popular top picks at tackle -- Iowa's Tristan Wirfs, Georgia's Andrew Thomas and Alabama's Jedrick Wills -- aren't in Mobile, but Jones very well could be the top option behind them. Jones, who was a four-year starter for the Cougars, was mentioned as a first-round possibility by Senior Bowl Executive Director Jim Nagy in a media session Monday.

DE Terrell Lewis - Alabama (6-5, 252)

An All-SEC second-team selection, Lewis tied for fifth in the conference with 11.5 tackles for loss and was eighth with six sacks. Kiper ranks him as the fourth-best outside linebacker in the draft.

OT Matt Peart - UConn (6-7, 303)

The Kingston, Jamaica, native was a four-year starter for the Huskies. The fifth-best tackle according to Kiper, Peart received high praise from Nagy, who said Peart could be this year's version of Tytus Howard, a small-school tackle in last year's game who wound up becoming a first-round pick.

TE Jared Pinkey - Vanderbilt (6-4, 260)

The top available tight end according to Kiper, Pinkney is coming off a senior season in which his production dropped from the previous year, but he still boasts some of the best athleticism at the position. He caught 20 passes for 233 yards and two touchdowns after posting 50 catches for 774 yards and seven touchdowns as a junior.

LB Zack Baun - Wisconsin (6-3, 235)

A consensus All-Big Ten first-team selection, Baun is coming off a big senior season in which he compiled 76 tackles, 12.5 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss. Baun was listed Tuesday by Hall of Famer Gil Brandt as one of the top five players in the game.

Baun would be a great pick.  Pass rush/coverage and looks like he can hold up at the line of scrimmage.  I wouldn't be upset if we traded back a bit and picked him...He's the classic Raven or Steeler pick that they beat us with for 8-10 years.  I'm sure those two will target him.

Projections on when each may be taken? And we sure could use a kick returner

A definite OL, DL and a few miscellaneous players on that list.

....... edit add, and it will be a plus to have a ready to go Myles Garrett back.

They say Baun wants to play off ball linebacker...guess who is comp is? yep, one Joe Schobert. They say their games are very similar in that both were hybrid DE's in college but had the athleticism to play off ball.

I still think depending on how the board is set-up to fall, the Browns will seriously consider trading down from 10 into the 13-16 range and taking a guy like Josh Jones. Which would drive fans more crazy if they "theoretically overdraft a guy" like jones at 10 or if they trade down in general? I have a sense it would be the trade down...

I could see Baun coming into the mix if Schobert see's anything close to a CJ Mosley deal that we ain't paying.. What we need is a serious run thumper at ILB.. and this draft is slim..Was Woods at Denver when Danny Trevathan was still there? has Trevathan even hit age 30 yet? am off to offer google a market value to buy some thuggery  🤓

Big gap between Devin Bush and Leroy Hoard  , I’d pass drafting anyone from Michigan.

Here's a few guys after Hoard and before Bush that didn't do too bad:

Tom Brady, Ty Law, Charles Woodson, Steve Hutchinson, Jon Runyan, Brandon Graham, Taylor Lewan
