Youngstown State expects to name Doug Phillips as its new head football coach. [Confirmed 5 year $250,000/year.]

Phillips has been the running backs coach at the University of Cincinnati and was the director of player personnel at Iowa State.

He was at Bowling Green as their defensive ends coach and recruiting coordinator in 2007 2008.

Phillips has more than 25 years coaching experience at the FBS and FCS level

He was a high school coach at Salem and Springfield and served as the superintendent of the West Branch Schools for four months in 2015.

Phillips, along with some of the others interviewed, including Shane Montgomery and Tim Tyrell, are all attending the Ohio School Football Coaches Convention in Columbus.

Phillips contacted 21 Sports Director Dana Balash early Friday morning to issue a statement. He said, "I'm excited to get back to the Valley and serve."

Terms of his deal were not known, and he's expected to be officially introduced Saturday.

I personally thought that they would have got a coach with HC with experience but this went fast, they must have thought this through ahead of time.

Also Bo just finished his big $7 million payoff from Nebraska and was headed back to his old job at LSU, a nice $2.3M job.

Big change from 5 years of Bo Pelini at YSU.

YSU's indoor facilities where the 49ers practice when they're on the east coast are as impressive as their outdoor facilities for a D-1AA school.

They need to get back to a contending football team every year but that's tough in the toughest conference in 1-AA with ND ST.
