Marty?    Browns 1986, yes.  What others?

No Gipper, I was writing about Bill Cowher in a response to Nickers.

Cowher was 2-4 in AFC Title games, losing all 4 in his own stadium.

Was Cowher a great coach? The answer would be yes. He certainly was a great motivator for his players.

Is he a Hall of Fame coach? Well, now he is but I say NO.

OK, but saying no is superfluous.   But I think perhaps the analysis is:   If Cowher is someone that belongs in the HOF, then so do X,Y, Z who are not yet in.   I sort of did that above, with Flores, Reeves, Marty, others.  Chuck Knox

I see. Well little folks like the fans will never have a say-so.

Admitting I have some anger issues, jealousy issues with Pittsburgh and Denver, if you compare apples-to-apples, it's pretty obvious Reeves had a far better coaching career.

There's a definite Steelers bias with the HOF. Lots of great NFL players played in Pittsburgh, but they are over represented as a whole in Canton IMHO. I use Kevin Greene and Lynn Swan as examples.

Denver....who's in? Off the top of my head it's Elway, Floyd Little, & Terrell Davis. Where's Randy Gradishar, Rick Upchurch, Steve Atwater, Carl Mecklenburg? They've had similar success as a franchise as Pittsburgh over about the same time frame (1970-present). It's plain wrong.

Not listing Polamalu is only showing the bias of some of you. He's going in and if he doesn't it will be because he doesnt care about accolades and the hall has an ego to floss.

if he doesn't, it's because he is a girly-man who was a cheap shot artist even before the NFL.....

There's a name you don't hear too often started in the defunct AAFC and with the new current NFL Browns.

Speedie will become the Browns' 17th Hall of Famer and first inducted since Gene Hickerson in 2007.

Or, maybe, like in my opinion, he is up against a couple of other  Safeties who have waited longer and who were likely better,  in John Lynch and Steve Atwater.

But you are right....he will go in someday....maybe even this year,  whether he deserves it or not.

Hard to make any HOF when on one side you had some contributions to the game -but- on the other you're a shady operator.

May he just fade away.........

If you were to go by  career production,  the finalist for induction this year,  (the regular class) should be in this order, per PFR's career production average:

1. Reggie Wayne  155

2.  Zach Thomas  149

3. Alan Faneca  146

4. Isaac Bruce 137

5. Edgerrin James 136

6. Sam Mills  126

7. Tori Holt  123

8. Steve Hutchinson  119

9. Bryant Young 117

10. John Lynch  115

11. Troy Polamalu  115

Of course, those just apply to the guys that are up for finalists this year.   They left off Clay Matthews, and he had a 137 CA.  As for Vag's whining about Polamalu.....there are even other Steelers that had better carees who are not on this list:  Hardy Nickerson had a 129.  Hines Ward had a better CA.   And Poly, with his paltry 115  production?   The following guys have a right to complain:   Jim Marshall  164 not in.  Ken Anderson 161 not in.

He should/could get his Steeler representative in the form of Alan Faneca....not Polly.

And don't forget, Donnie Shell got in with the Centennial Class

They did put in 3 OTs with the Centennial Class......but not Dick Shafrath who was better than all of them likely.

I guess we should ask:  why isn't Marty on that list?   Every other one of the Top Ten winningest coaches are in the HOF or are on that list, except Belichick and Reid, who are still active and not eligible:

For the same reason 1\2 the Steel Curtain got in, and Marty and Clay Matthews aren't- the Steelers won Super Bowls, the Browns didn't. They'd both be in if they had won rings. I still feel Matthews was every bit as good as Jack Ham- who got in a long time ago.

I tend to agree. He lost several AFC Title games in his own stadium.

He got it for the publicity.
