Haslams, please sell the Browns

Posted Jan 02, 2020

Jimmy and Dee Haslam, please sell the Browns! You have shown and continue to show that you are not capable of running an NFL franchise, one that myself and many other fans support with unwavering loyalty. You can’t or won’t get out of your own way. I can’t believe that you were minority owners of the Steelers and didn’t learn a darn thing. Please sell the team for the sake of the fans.

The Browns should fire Jimmy Haslam

The guy the Cleveland Browns should fire is team owner Jimmy Haslam. He has shown he has no clue about running a franchise. Every decision he makes quickly ends up wrong. And you’ll notice that the best coaching hires have already happened without the Browns getting any of them (“Can the Browns afford to be patient with their head coach search when the Redskins and Cowboys moved quickly?" cleveland.com, Jan. 6).

This is partly because the owner doesn’t know what he’s doing and can’t make up his mind, and partly because he has made Cleveland an undesirable place to be a coach or general manager. No one wants to be a one-and-done hire by a know-nothing owner.

Once I started digging into Jim Haslam's business dealings I became more unsure of his ability to run an NFL franchise.

He's had enough time to try and get it right  -but- how do you get him to sell before the reluctant NFL owners have to step in and act before he totally ruins the BROWNS franchise ?

MHO? This is their  last chance to  "get it right".

I wish, but that is by NO means the case.   Certainly the fans can't force him to sell.   The league certainly will not.  This is not like Modell who was about to have his franchised foreclosed on, even after being bailed out once by the Baltimore Bribe.    JH still operates in a fiscally profitable manner.  And the league does not care that he does not win.  The league always wants a few patsy teams as long as they make money.  The Bidwills have owned the Cardinals for generations.   Now that he has reduced duties at Pilot after selling,  Jimmy and Dee will be spending their time dealing with their sports franchises,  Browns, Columbus Crew.    And it seems clear that they want this team for posterity....to hand down to their kids:

They have three adult children, James Bagwell Haslam (adopted 2016), Whitney Haslam Johnson, and Cynthia Haslam Arnholt and five grandchildren.

Further evidenced by this list of their front office on their website:

Curious about this adoption of James....an adult?

And notice who is the first person listed right after the family

Dream on....see my post above.  As long as things are fiscally responsible that will never happen.   The only people they have ditched caused ruinous financial consequences to their team:   Kiam and Modell.    The NFL does NOT consider continual  on field losing to be a detriment to franchise operation.   50% of each game involves someone who lost that game.  So they figure, someone has to lose, why not the Browns.

If this league does not care about franchises moving out of St. Louis, Oakland..and any number of any other cities that have had loyal fan bases for more money....why would  they give a rats ass about a fan base that the worst thing that happens to them is that they lose a lot.

Haslam’s “poor ownership decisions” has set this roster up full of young and talented players.
It is now a matter of filling in the missing pieces and having a coach that knows how to win some football games.
Baker, Chubb, Landry, OBJ, Myles, Ward, etc.

The future is bright. We’re just taking the scenic route with some detours on it..

It's just a big mess and the BROWNS team, fans and anyone else who is concerned is going to suffer from it.

No easy outs or answers.

That's the ironic part they had a real shot in 2019 for a winning season -but- the ownership and management of the team is "strange".

Hopefully they can get football people to run the team and pull out before another losing season.

They absolutely can.  But won't.

They can NOT buy tickets and NOT go to the games.   They could peacefully protest, stating sell the team Jimmy, or watch the games by yourself.  (well, actually with the opponent's fans)

1-31. Too late.

And the other 31 multimillionaire and billionaire members would be very reluctant to take action to kick one of the owners out and sell the team but they can !

In reference to the Jerry Jones case in 2017 (no action taken)......

A league source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that multiple owners already have been discussing the possibility, which flows from Article VIII of the NFL’s Constitution & Bylaws. Specifically, Section 8.13 authorizes the Commissioner to determine that an owner “has been or is guilty of conduct detrimental to the welfare of the League or professional football.” If the Commissioner believes the available sanction (a $500,000 fine) is “not adequate or sufficient,” the Commissioner may refer the issue to the NFL’s Executive Committee, which has the power to compel “[c]ancellation or forfeiture of the franchise in the League of any member club involved or implicated,” with a directive to sell the team.

Now I'm not sure on some of the other details like stadium deals and other matters.

Hopefully this goes the simple way and soon ...... without any more 1-31 fiascos.

Yeah,  the name was Terry Robiski, interim coach. Then Chudzinski.  A couple of polocks.

Depo... the guy whose role is not being expanded by Haslam... is in charge of the Draft now???

Remember folks... you read it here first.

Going to have to start calling you "Scoop"...

Tour gets so testy when his precious THE PROCESS BOYS aren't fawned over.

When it gets blown up in 2, maybe 3 years tops, I promise not to gloat... that much.

Gloat as much as you like if and when.

In the meantime there's no fawning required... just quit making shit up.

I'm tired of cleaning up after you... even though you provided the Scoop to use.

From Monday Morning Quarterback/Sports Illustrated

"Finally, on the (Cleveland Browns head coach) search itself - some of the candidates going through Berea found the place to have more red flags than Tiananmen Square. One big one was the, yes, level of involvement of DePodesta's analytics team. Both Hue Jackson and Freddie Kitchens were basically told to have senior analyst Dave Giuliani on headsets on gameday, over the last four years, with Giuliani serving as a sort of game management specialist. What alarmed candidates was the Giuliani, who worked with Chip Kelly in Philly, would not be reporting to the head coach. He'd be reporting to DePodesta directly. Another was that the head coach would have twice-weekly meetings with ownership and analytics people. In the past, the Monday meetings would have taken up to half a day, and proposed Friday meetings would be for reviewing game plans.

Wouldn't surprise me.

This is the first time I've ever actually wanted a Browns owner to sell the team.

Is it possible that Depo ends up being the man? Sure, but right now there's zero evidence to support that is the plan, O.

I'm just trying to hold Dutch accountable for what he has been posting lately... most of which is unsubstantiated garbage in place of his usual funny garbage. :)

I mean he just had some poor schmuck believing that The Process wanted to draft Trubs over Myles... oh, wait... that was you... ;)

That's MY process.  To me, a decent QB is more valuable to a football team than a good DE.

No, they can't.   You again are living a pipe dream.   Then Jimmy, when his lease is up just says:  " the town no longer supports this team......Where can we move to?  Sacremento, St. Louis, Portland, or San Antonio look good to me."

Just No

"Conduct detrimental to the welfare of the league"  does not including losing to the other 31 teams.  Those teams are happy to have the Browns lose to them.

Now, if JH had been indicted in the Pilot fraud scheme and had to go and wear a nice orange suit....then maybe.   But, even then,  were that to happen now at this juncture, he could just turn ownership over to his  daughter and son in Law, and let them run the Browns.

(of course, could that have been a good thing?)

Again.....losing games does not fit the criteria.
