The democrat party has gone so far to the left I'm surprised so many people in the democrat party are staying democrat. It is obvious the democrat party today is not the democrat party of yesterday. My wife for instance has a relative that believes pretty much everything that conservatives do yet votes democrat. Why, I don't get it? The democrat party has left her. At one time there were conservative democrats but they are long gone today.

Both parties have doubled down on big government so there really is no winning. I remember the Tea Party was a thing for a bit but really it was co-opted by big gov Republicans for votes and faded away. It is what it is so I think some people with party loyalty stay hitched to them like a sports team even after the party philosophically shifts away from their own personal views. (ex: Trump being anti 2A and Republicans loving him; Obama helping to turn Libya into a slave trading hellscape and Dems fawning over him)

True enough. One of my biggest disappointments was when the Republicans had all three branches of government and could have easily put the clamps on the spending.

As a long time follower of politics in my opinion Trump is as good as it gets. We likely will never see another like him.

The republican party is still far and away better than the democrat party for conservatives. I don't see how anyone who has conservative views can vote democrat. On the 2a issue look no further than your neighboring state of Virginia and the gun grabbing going on right now that the democrats control the state. The republicans were at least a check on that before. Any pro 2A voter in Virginia that did not go out and vote republican only have themselves to blame for what is happening now with the democrats in control of the state.
