And from the business side of sports......

Perhaps the tide has finally turned for bettors in NFL action after losing most of the first 10 weeks of the season. Sunday’s Week 11 saw favorites go 7-5 against-the-spread with only two underdogs winning outright, but it was the popular favorites that all got there together to produce some formidable parlay risk the books couldn’t escape.

William Hill’s Nick Bogdanovich described their Sunday results as “horrible” while South Point’s Chris Andrews described it as “terrible” if that helps give an indication of how the books did.

“It’s going to be a losing day,” conceded Station Casinos sportsbook director Jason McCormick prior to kickoff of the Sunday night game. “The Patriots were bad with several other games.”

The ongoing trend with bettors during the Tom Brady era is to always bet Bill Belichick to come up with a great game plan to win following a loss and it held true again as the Patriots won 17-10 at Philadelphia, a game that ran from Patriots -3.5 to -5 by kickoff.

We’re stuck to the day,” said CG Technology sportsbook director Tony DiTommaso. “We really needed the Lions and Eagles and didn’t get either of those. The Eagles looked good enough to win, but (Carson) Wentz didn’t have his best game and his receivers dropped a few passes in key moments.”

Part of the reason the Lions didn’t get the cover or push was because of Lions coach Matt Patricia’s choice to go for a two-point conversion after a touchdown late in the game when down by 8-points. He was looking to get to a 6-point deficit and then, I guess, win the game with a TD on their next possession. The Lions did not succeed and the final score was 35-27, a game where most of the wagers were bet on the Cowboys at -7.

“I just don’t understand the move,” DiTommaso said. “And I’m not just saying it because a push would have been better for us, but the 2-point attempt in that situation just doesn’t make any sense.”

The favorites that killed the books included the Cowboys, Patriots, Saints (-5 in 34-17 win at Tampa Bay), and Ravens (-4.5 in 41-7 win vs Texans). That’s a four-team parlay at 10-to-1 odds at most shops (CG books use true odds) is an escalation of odds that books couldn’t make up through any straight bets. And then there were the teasers that cashed on the big favorites that didn’t cover as well.

Also looking at this WEEK 12 games in the AFCN:

MIAMI in sunny CLEVELAND which is a -10.5 favorite and 40 point O/U.

Pittsburgh in Cincinnati +6.5.   -and-. on MNF.  Baltimore opened a pick game now a -2 point favorite at the LA Rams.   So there you go......

OK, Mr.  bettor.......what is the line on whether or not Garrett's suspension will get reduced?

Odds for Number of Games Myles Garrett Will Be Suspended

Outcome Odds at Bovada
Over 5.5 -500
Under 5.5 +300

Odds taken on Nov. 15

As Ron Burgundy would say, things escalated rather quickly from there. Garrett ripped the helmet off of Rudolph’s head and then swung and struck the Pittsburgh QB with it.

Rudolph called it “a total coward move.” The NFL quickly called Garrett on the carpet. He was suspended indefinitely, with the minimum length of the suspension to be the remainder of this season (six games) and also to include the playoffs if the Browns were to qualify for postseason play.

And......  (even though I'm sick of this topic)

The 4-6 Cleveland Browns won their second straight game on Thursday night. However, a massive fight broke out in the dying seconds and star defensive end Myles Garrett wound up ripping the helmet off Pittsburgh QB Mason Rudolph and using it like a mace to hit Rudolph in the head.

To no one’s surprise, Garrett has been suspended for the remainder of the season (including playoffs) for the unprecedented incident.

Now the Browns are seemingly back in playoff and AFC North contention with an easy schedule upcoming, but will have to continue their winning streak without their best defender. Are they worth a look in the AFC North odds?

2019 AFC North Odds

Team Odds at BetOnline
Baltimore Ravens -800
Pittsburgh Steelers +700
Cleveland Browns +1200

Odds taken November 15.

Browns Beat Steelers But Garrett Suspended

On Thursday, the Browns did something the franchise had never done before: beat the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers in the same season. But the win was blemished by the aforementioned fight between Garrett and Rudolph.

Garrett actually connected flush on Rudolph’s head and he’s lucky that there was no damage – at least no visible damage. The incident was so ugly that talking heads (and teams) have discussed taking legal action.

Browns 10 1/2 point favorites @ Miami is a huge line for an away team with two DL defenders missing.

Yes and they opened up at 9 point favorites, after the game the line actually went up.

My bad. That makes about a 3 point difference. Still pretty stout with those players and the starting S and maybe even Vernon missing.

I can't imagine a double digit victory, but lord knows I'd love to see it! I just don't see us getting pressure without Garrett, and I don't think it looks good for Vernon. Hope I'm wrong!

I will say that it's past time for an offensive explosion. That would be JUST what the doctor ordered.

Edit:  Kitchens just said Vernon would be "very close" to returning Sunday. CMON BUDDY!

Analysis of Kaep's workout - I watch everything this guy puts out because the QB details are more than any other channel I've yet found. I have never in my life learned more about the nuances of QB play: what drops from center should look like, eye/head placement with telestrator corrections and explanations of ideal - etc - than during this vid.

Short summary: There's a few reasons Kaep's last two full seasons in the league were PFF under 60..

Even without these guys, I would still expect the Steelers to win on the strength of their defense alone.  But, one can always hope.

I will be checking into a resort in Las Vegas the day of the Super Bowl.  I will be driving in from Sedona that day, but expect to be in my condo unit before that game starts.  Don't know that I will be able to plop down a wager on the game, as I am not sure where a sports book may be there near where I will be staying.

So, OK, Kenny Rogers....I will be staying at a place on West Tropicana Ave. (about 3 miles west of I-15)   Where is the nearest sports book I can go to to put like $5.00 down on the game?

$10 or more is the usual minimum last time I knew. Go up N. to W. Flamingo and take a right going E. You will find the Rio and The Palms across from it. Both have sports books.

OK, Ten bucks.  (I didn't have to do that much in either Tahoe or Wendover when I was in those places)

But I did check out a map.....both the Excalibur and the NYNY are just down the road, about equidistant.....but, parking issues with those? As for that it would probably just be a run in, make the bet, run out situation.

Who would we rather face with a deplete DL:    A somewhat hurting Fitzpatrick....or Rosen?
