Will We See More of This?

"You feel about as small as you can as a man, trying to take care of your family and watching your children have to go through something like this," said Troy Renault, 39, a homebuilder and father of five boys who lost his job, then his home, when the recession hit the construction industry.

Within the past 4 months Obama and lefties have spent over $800 BILLION dollars on Democratic pet-projects that have nothing to do with helping with the economy.

Stimulus fizzle has Democrats worried article

One positive thing. No? Just playing Devils Advocate. How has it failed in 3 months? Obama is not scrambling, he said up front it will take 2 years.

Come on T.

It's part of the plan T...get rid of the middle calls and force them on to the poverty rolls so they become democratic voters.

How is a recession that started in december of 2007 Obama's fault?

Actually the first point is that it did not start then.

The prolonging to two years (as of the last revision) is Obama's fault.

They (the economic dream team) were wrong. Face it.

Sure Republicans might have done the same, but they'd be "held accountable" as the mantra of the left goes.

Yes, it did start in December of 2007.

It was already 15 months old when Obama got into office. But somehow it's all his fault. Nevermind that the first bailouts occured under the watch of Bush. It's Obama's fault. THe economy did no miraculously recover overnight. It's Obama's fault... because economies miraculously recover overnight all the time.

You do know what constitutes a recession correct?

The only way to back up that politicized definition is to bend the definition itself.

>> A common definition of a recession is a period when the nation's gross domestic product shrinks for two consecutive quarters, but the committee noted that GDP figures have been erratic this time around. GDP fell in the final quarter of 2007 but then rose in the first half of 2008 before falling again in the third quarter of this year. <<

Also note the peak employment just before.

Good to see that Steve hasn't started making any sense in my absence.

The recession officially started in December 2007, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research. That's the official measure. It doesn't use your definition. It uses a more broad-based measure of economic activity.

You can read all about it here.

Sorry. The recession started in December of 2007.

As for politicizing it, Martin Feldstein is on the NBER committee. Why don't you figure out who he is and ask yourself why he'd be politicizing this for Obama.

Here's the WSJ saying the same thing. Maybe you could also explain how the WSJ is politicizing this to help Obama.

again, should i feel sorry because i still have a job?

if you so choose to make it a partisan issue, fine. negligent republican lawmakers allowed these bubbles....for years on end, there was no desire to throttle back the economy....whether or not the actual value of our market was artificially inflated or not. innocent american taxpayers gladly funneled money under false pretenses that they would get huge returns on their money for doing nothing.....well, they did get huge returns, only it was monopoly money. the bottom fell out when people realize that the number on the balance sheet wasn't anywhere close to whats in the accounts. that 14,xxx dow number was a complete sham, because it was all based on money we never had....

did the GOP do anything to keep this in check? no...

did the GOP enforce the regulation laws on the books? no...

did they get rich off the neglect? you bet your xxxxing ass they did....

so to sit here on your soap box and throw stones at a president that has made no better decisions, yet no worse, than "the decider" is comedy gold. i sit back and watch you bitter partisans tearing each other down like all the current problems of the country are caused by one side only.....too oblivious to the amount of hypocrisy that falls from your mouth. discussion is one thing, but this isn't discussion anymore.

the underlying point here? *nothing good comes from pointing fingers* both sides of these political jackasses screwed the pooch, sold america down the river, and looted the bounty for themselves while we sit here holding the bill. fight with each other if you see fit, but youre barking up the wrong tree. the most incompetent president in american history got the ball rolling, the first black president is helping to accelerate the ball. you can't spend your way outta recession, but simply cutting taxes wont either. the right has no other idea other than the cutting taxes mantra....i guess it displays the imaginitiveness of conservatives....if they can be called that.

and yes, obama is xxxxing up in a big way. let him hang himself.....cause these political hit-pieces are so very pathetic....the GOP's fall from grace was deserved, since they couldn't even practice what they preach. but thats standard GOP practice, as the news shows.

You're really something. You try to spin a non-partisan measure of the economy, something that isn't even controversial, and instead insert a definition that makes Obama look worse and Bush look better, tell people to "face it", and then when you get called on it, you accuse other people of being apologists and spinning.

Gotcha.

The recession started in December of 2007. This is widely accepted in economic circles. Sorry.

But mz the pussy is here, too.

huh?

Ignoring basics like "cause & effect" and merely tossing out "stats" does little to promote your position or opinion on this issue (or any). Lumberg is maddeningly notorious at this.

No "gotcha" at all Heck.

A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth.

That didn't occur.

It's a simple fact.

You, I and everybody else know that.

If there's any spin going on it's because some might want to generate a headline.

Who knows and who cares.

But motivations on either part doesn't change the fact.

I'll assume your reasons are to help take heat off the failed economic policies and misjudgements of the current president.

So from here I'll keep repeating this fact: " A recession is two consecutive quarters of negative growth. " and you'll keep denying it.

Why waste the time? Surely you have other Obama failures to defend.

I thanked you because it was a well thought out reply, though somewhat off base as to the blaming of President Obama.

You shouldn't feel guilty because you still have a job...I am glad you do.

You are also correct this has gone past the point of discussion. It has been that way for 10-12 years now, so no need to get all worked up at this point, it's old news.

My problem with President Obama...yes I am a old fashioned person who refuses to refer to the president by just his last name. Like it or not he is president and has earned the title....the problem is I honestly don't think he has America's best interests at heart. I have never been able to say that about any of our past presidents...at least those with which I am familiar....that stretches from president Truman to the present, though I was pretty young when HT was president.

It has nothing to do with his party affiliation, his race, religion, or anything along those lines. It's his politics. The guy is a socialist to the core...and that isn't democrat, though my friends on that side of the debate seem pretty blind to the fact.

No, President Obama didn't cause the recession. For that matter, nobody really causes one. They are a natural cycle. However, he has used the current conditions to launch massive spending from which we will never recover. Yes...I said never. We are seeing the devaluing of America because for a truly socialist government to succeed, you can't have vast numbers of people who have any wealth. Wealth relative to those who have very little.

It's like we have become a nation of lemmings who want to burrow up in our holes and allow someone else take care of us and make all of our decisions.

Sorry...I just can't do that having experienced a full life with little government intervention in so far as how we should live and what we can achieve.

Then again while Lum posts his DA stats the opposition posts "hope and change" for BQ.

It is a little similar.

(except thjat BQ isn't now starting and losing)

;)

WSS

Ok. But more often than not, the "hope & change" crowd supplements with "we know it can't continue the way it was." (sounding even more familiar  ) Or they did, when it still needed to be supplemented.
