Holy shitski I generally stink at professional football.

As you are merely tied for 1st in the Collegiate version of Pick'em... clearly you have split your focus.

On the Pro side you're the only one to post double digit winners every week to date. Keep that up and it'll be a runaway.

Only 5 of us were smart enough to not pick GB.  <_<

Yup...

Either a stunning effort by the Iggles OL or a great example of "it does matter who you've played"...

... or both.

Yup... dogs are 9-4 in the first 13 games... and 7 dogs won outright.....now 8

And only 15 games with the byes and even less in the coming weeks, a chance for 10 or 11 dogs to cover.  That generally messes up pick ems.

.......make that 10 on a 12-10 Saints win with 0 TDs.

And the professional bookmakers loved it, John Q Public took a bath.......      http://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/story.cfm/story/1983654

The underdogs were barking loud in Sunday’s NFL Week 4 action to the extreme extent that seven of the nine 'dogs covering the spread didn’t even need the points, winning their games outright.

“Sharps did well, and we went 2-4 in games where we took six figures, but it was still by far our biggest win of the season,” said MGM Resorts sportsbook director Jeff Stoneback. “We did really well to parlays and teasers with so many underdogs covering and winning on the day.”

When nine 'dogs cover on an NFL Sunday it’s usually going to be an awful week for the betting public and the books scoop most of the chips. Stoneback’s example of losing to large money and wiseguys and still winning big shows just how important the regular Joe is to the bottom line. He went a step further to clarify how good the week was.

“If we compare today’s results to all last season's regular season Sundays and all of this year's (Sunday) it would rank in the top-5 best results,” he said.

There’s always that big root game to parlays either flourishing early and gaining momentum throughout each result posted on the day, or crushing the parlay dead right out of the gate. Week 4 had a big one, and lots of other little exterminators helping out.

“Our biggest win of the day was the Chiefs not covering,” Stoneback said of the Chiefs (-7.5) 34-30 win with a TD in the final seconds. “And after that our best decisions were the Browns, Chargers, and Jaguars.”........continued in link...........

Makes me wonder how the dogs have done YTD... maybe later I'll do the tally.

Obviously (?) not so well that it drew my attention prior to this week, but then it might just be me distracted by my dismal Otto Graham League showings... 😖

Most casual bettors largely "give the chalk" or take the popular front running favorites sometimes blindly regardless of the facts.

Oh the chalk is an old bookie term when they had massive blackboards and used to hand write in every line.  It was also handy generally located in the back room of a business or other front where they would have several buckets of water and some rags and if there were such a raid could quickly wipe the board clean. (now laptops, tablets and phones have made that as obsolete as a model T Ford)

When I was about 19 (1969?) a jock friend took me in one of those places in Girard, Ohio. The front in a small building was an insurance office with two desks a phone a file cabinet and coat stand. I never ever saw anyone in there. In the back was the bookmaking operation.  Wow.

Another tidbit from week 5,   TIP  vegasinsider is loaded with this stuff......and a long time information source of mine. (and it's FREE for most stuff)

Overall, favorites went 4-9 ATS Sunday and 4-10 ATS including the Eagles' Thursday night win and six of the 14 games went over the total. I also found it interesting that 11 of the 14 games were won by the road team.

Excluding the Week 4 Monday Night game, road teams have gone 35-26-1 straight up and 40-21-1 (65%) against the spread this season.

Interesting stuff...

Did the check of our Yahoo Pick'em. Here are the results

  • Week 1: 16 games - 10 dogs covered - 5 won outright and one tied (AZ)
  • Week 2: 16 games -- 9 dogs covered - - 6 won outright
  • Week 3: 16 games -- 9 dogs covered -- 5 won outright
  • Week 4: 14 games - 10 dogs covered - 8 won outright! ... with one game to go

Overall that's 38 of 62 dogs covering (61.3%) and 24 of 62 (38.7%) winning outright...

Wow that is interesting especially with four weeks in a row, books tend to correct week-by-week to prevent these kinds of anomalies.

I did notice that this week's college (oh wrong pick em, must be the meds, honest) Monday lines had 8 double digits games and 8 off (0) games which will probably have lines on them soon. Unusual this late in the season.

There is a lot more parity in sports now than ever largely due to better nutrition, training, conditioning, coaching at all levels.

At the Quarter pole

  • Teri Hatcher wins the week with a 10-spot.
  • mjp sees his lead shrink.

But I was in the pool!!!!

Nevermind that still TGZ pulled away with a closing 3 teamer -and- only TGZ and 6 others who went 8-7 barely broke the dreaded Mendoza line in a very tricky week thanks to the dawgs (not those dawgs the underdogs).

That's OK WEEK 5 opens with no MIA but 3 other double digits dogs..... (nothing else was here before)

.........and I was in the pool, really, honest I want a.....oh nevermind.    <_<

LAR +1.5 up 26-24 in the 4th 12 minutes left. Good game.

.........and 30-29 final Seahawks win by 1. Whoa.
