The Montgomery County coroner says the Dayton gunman had cocaine and other drugs in his system at the time of the massing shooting that killed nine people before police fatally shot him.

Dr. Kent Harshbarger said during a Thursday news conference that authorities also found a bag of cocaine on the body of 24-year-old Connor Betts.

If anything alcohol is worse than most illegal hard drugs that aren't heroin. Heroin and alcohol are the two dirtiest drugs in my humble opinion

Back when America was great you could buy laudanum at the drugstore and there was opium in the cough syrup. All the girls wanted to be roofied! The no good dirty sumbeeches in the government have no right to tell me I can't buy speedballs from CVS. Big, serious trouble when the brownshirts started to get their hands in our medicine cabinets. You betcha! Root beer! Cocaine! Cloward-piven! Tomatoes! Duck dynasty!

Some, if not most, currently illegal drugs have a much lower harm potential than alcohol; that's borne out by statistics. Statistically, alcohol kills more people than cannabis, cocaine, LSD, mescaline, psilocybin, MDMA, etc - combined. Yet, alcohol remains legal. And substances like cannabis, LSD, and psilocybin are among the most safest drugs a person can take.

wait...more folks use alcohol because it is legal.

but it's tragic at the number of deaths of both opioids and alcohol:

Drinking too much can harm your health. Excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths and 2.5 million years of potential life lost (YPLL) each year in the United States from 2006 – 2010, shortening the lives of those who died by an average of 30 years.

It's a social disease - and socialism isn't the answer to it.

Would you prefer booze to be illegal because some people aren’t responsible? I don’t think the government should be the arbiter of what I choose to do to my own body.

That was just a stupid ass quote.  But I'm guessing you've had parents or siblings with severe alcohol problems, maybe religious problems also.  It's obvious from your posts.

booze being illegal was tried. didn't work. The sad truth is, that it is addictive, and families are ruined, children are hurt in their growing years by having alcoholism in their family, marriages go under, people die, it's just so tragic.

Making it illegal doesn't work, I admit. But what is the answer to prevent all this destruction of lives?

Offhand, I'd say God and serious counseling is the only answer.  I think people get all caught up in their own troubles, that they end up addicted, and their family and friends all suffer greatly.

There seems to be so much refusal in acceptance of personal responsibility... that lends itself to wreckless destructive behavior.

There are those folks who rise above poverty and despair, and troubles, and do great.

Then there are too many that give up, become addicts, and won't try to live. Biological or chemically induced mental illness/disability...

the homeless.

From what I've read and heard, booze and drugs never, ever solve any problem, it makes them far worse. I don't know the answer to solving the problem. God is there though, and He does.

Several members of my family; with varying degrees of severity. I've seen their struggles firsthand with it. That doesn't stop me from consuming alcohol on occasion, but it certainly shaped my views on moderating whatever you intoxicant of choice is.

I remember back in the good old days of true America that I could get cocaine with my Coca Cola. Anyone against cocaine is against making America great again!

There was a tiny amount in the original coca cola, and it was removed when I graduated from college in 1929.
