THE BROWNS BOARD

If the Browns had kept their #17 overall pick...

I have no doubts the pick at #17 would have been DT Jeffery Simmons..not a reach going at #19..we may catch a break not seeing that munster week 1..

Hard to say.....Dorsey really wanted a cornerback.  Or an MLB.   They may have gone for Deondre Baker...who went #30.....or traded up to try to get White or Bush.....but that would have been too dear likely.

By the way....what did Pissburgh trade to move up to take Bush?

They traded #20, #52 (2ndRd) and 2020 3rd rd pick.

Good question. Probably Dillard. But really, looking back it looks like the draft panned out kind of like Dorsey expected with their not being a player left at 17 that really gets your motor going. PED Clemson guy was left. ACL tear guy was left.

It really did seem that way, didn't it?

I think it would have been Simmons, honestly not sure who I would have taken. Perhaps Simmons, one of the OTackles or the CB from Georgia.

What if Tim Couch didn't suck?     What if Ben Gay became a HOF player?    What if frogs had wings?

What if Marty had left Dave Puzzoli on the field at 3rd & 19 vs Horse Teeth?

Next year the first round pick will probably have to be OL.. I'm guessing either the Hubbard experiment will finally be judged the Meh that it was, or Corbett will prove a master of the Ole block rather than the pancake.  We have decent-but-not-spectacular backups ready, but first-rounders are there for a reason.

If not, it's time for a first-round LB.. our last three LB's in the first were the quickly forgettable barkevious mingo, kamerion wimbley, and craig powell.

We should still get a decent tackle at 32

Who would you have taken with what was left on the board?

Dillard... a plug-n-play LT is a great value mid-1st.

At #17 Overall The Browns would have selected Greedy Williams.

They said they couldn't believe he was still there in the 2nd.

Many had him as the highest rated corner in the draft.

Mid-First round would have been a perfect place to take him.

Instead, Dorsey said, "hold my sweater buddy boy..." Traded for OBJ and still got Greedy in the 2nd. Boss move.

Honestly, I think you might be right on this. Greedy or Simmons.

Yet he was the 7th CB taken in the actual draft.

Does that give you no pause?

I think it says just what was being said about him:   not a big tackler, not great at support in the run game. That he may not be as good as Denzel Ward...our #4 overall pick at CB.

It could also give me pause to say that with the way he is supposed to be able to cover, getting him at #46 overall could still be a good deal. He WILL still be considered the #2 CB....even if he wins the starting job.   It also says that if he cannot win the starting job, then perhaps Terence Mitchell is doing a hell of a job.
