I started playing with an objective "grading" approach earlier today.

Basically it would sum the differences between where a BBMD GM took a player and where that player was actually taken. For example the 1st round QBs's score would be:

  • Murray 01 in our draft - 01 in real draft = 0
  • Haskins 05 in ours - 15 in real = -10
  • Jones 37 ours - 6 in real = +31

UDFAs that have been signed would be assigned a "real draft" position of 255... one more than the pick number fr Mr. Irrelevant.

UDFAs who have not been signed would be assigned a position of 500 as roughly 250 UDFAs have been signed so far.

Here's what the Ravens' GM, Nero, would look like:

BALTIMORE RAVENS: Grade -402

  • CHRISTIAN WILKINS   DT    Picked at position 22 - 13 = +9
  • KELVIN HARMON   WR   Picked at position 85 - 206 (6.33)  = -121
  • DAVID EDWARDS   OT   Picked at position 102 - 169 (5.31) = -67
  • VOSEAN JOSEPH   LB   Picked at position 113 - 147 (5.09) = -34
  • JALEN JELKS   DE   Picked at position 123 - 241 (7.27) = -118
  • RYAN FINLEY   QB   Picked at position 159 - 104 (4.02) = +55
  • KARAN HIGDON   RB   Picked at position 191 - 255 UDFA(HOU) = -64
  • DAVID SILLS   WR   Picked at position 193 - 255 UDFA(BUF) = -62

While -402 may not look good, it's how it stacks up against the other totals that matters... and I think this would stack up pretty well.

I thought of doing something similar. It's a nice objective method which might not really reflect how good are we as GMs, but how close did we get to valuing players as GMs.

Having said that, I average -50 points per pick (8picks), which means that on average I drafted players that one and half rounds later would still be available... I don't think that's a good score.

Would love to see a full ranking... If I have time on Monday I can rank som BBMD GMs.

cool... maybe a couple of us can take a Division.

Point average per pick was one way I was thinking of using to try to take the varying number of picks into account.

I think that we should factor it, somehow, though. It's easier to get a worse ranking if you have more late round picks. Guessing who is going to be taken in 6-7th round is much harder than in first.

EDIT: I'll rank NFC West. If it doesn't take me a long time, I'll rank another division.

We can make a thread with OP being the overall ranking and next posts the rank of each team per pick like you did, to keep updating OP.
