What barrier? Electing a non-American President? I prefer a foreigner who loves America like Arnold.

Obama will be ousted before his term is up. The guy is an abomination.

Thanks for the congrats. I think we (as a people) deserve it. Unfortunately there's a lot of work to be done, as is evidenced by several of the responses here.

I didn't vote for Obama, not because I thought McCain was a better candidate, but because I don't buy into the sham of choice being offered to the public. These two guys are merely different sides of the same coin. The real problems we face as a country are linked to the fact that both political parties are bought and paid for by the same interests. I wrote in for the only guy who had the balls to state the truth, Ron Paul; even if half his ideas are crackpot, he's right about the modern political party.

We aren't given a choice on issues that really matter, like what to do about a government that has become independent of the people and no longer places their safety/well being/progress beyond it's own ambitions, or what to do about an economy teetering on the brink of collapse because it's supported by a petro-dollar system that the world will no longer stand for, or what to do about the mass exodus of U.S. capital to other nations through the funnels created by our very own "global corporations". Instead, a few hot button issues and phrases are tossed out there to make it look like there's a huge choice between the candidates... gay rights, abortion, "socialism".

Hey socialist/communist talking idiots in this thread... I've got news for you... socialism exists in this country, and has for a very long time; the thing is it's only for the top 1%, and the rest of us get to bare the pains of the free market. What would you call a 700 billion dollar bail out package for the financial elite? Well if it's a Republican who's doing it, it's necessary to ensure the stability of the market, if it's a Democrat in office it's socialism.

Until people actually start thinking in this country instead of swallowing force fed information and slogans, we aren't gonna get anywhere.

I'm happy to see that our culture has come far enough to elect a black man named Barack Hussein Obama. I actually got a little emotional about it, it's a beautiful thing to see American's believing in the future, instead of wallowing in the misery of war and failed expansionist ideology. I just hope this guy does something, or all the sentiment will be for nothing.

One nice thing about America, you don't need an intelligence test to vote. Presidential elections devolved into a Cult of Personality- long ago. That Obama would win was a foregone conclusion in my book. He's got a Democratic House (led in my book by head nitwit Nancy Pelosi) AND a Democratic Senate- I pray to God it's not Filibuster proof.

Those that think this is the greatest thing for America since corn flakes ought to take a step back. You did hear Obama say he wants to "spread the wealth around?" Sort of sounds like "From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" - that was Karl Marx in his 1875 Critique of the Gotha Program. In one of his debates with McCain he called National Healthcare a "right". Funny, I didn't see that anywhere in the US Constitution. McCain properly called it a "responsibility".

Oh, I'll give the guy the benefit of the doubt, but there is absolutely no way in hell he can deliver on all his promises without massively raising taxes- and I don't remember seeing it in the Constitution that the primary purpose of government is to rob from the rich (or from the middle class, they do pay the bulk of the taxes) & give to the poor. I was so touched by Barak in his acceptance speech bringing up that 106 year old woman that voted today. Yeah, she's seen a lot of progress alright- too bad you didn't mention what the income tax rate was way back in 1902. FWIW, when it was first instituted, it was 12 of 1% max. icon_e_smile.gif

See, I am of Irish descent, but I did not go out and vote for McCain just because he is of Irish descent also and not have a damn clue about what the issues were. To some, the only issue at hand was voting for Obama because of what he is and not what he is about. That is why this country is heading deeper into the hole than it already is.

Nice to know that people actually take time to know why they are voting and for what. Not.

Faninthehammer,

I think maybe you've bought into what the race warlords have been selling: that white Americans are nothing but a bunch of racists.

We crossed the barrier years ago, way before the rest of the world did.

I'm not concerned about what color he is (and remember, he is half white as well, a fact that has been ignored). I recall someone accusing the guy of 'not being black enough' - whatever that means.

This election was won on the message of 'not Bush and not tied to Bush', and 'what can my country do for me'. It was an absolute pander-fest from both sides. That part of it makes me sick to my stomach, because it's pretty clear where we're headed.

Congrats President Obama.

To all those who aren't proud of the history that was made today should question their allegiance to this country. Do you realize it was only a few decades ago when a black Rosa Parks couldn't sit in the front of her bus.

Congrats President-Elect Obama!!!

I wish you a peaceful and prosperous 4 years, and look forward to seeing you keep your promises of bipartisanship and healing!!!

For those of us who did NOT vote for you, I hope you take the time to find out WHY...and to take those concerns into consideration when making decisions.

Again, Congrats and good luck!

They both made a bunch of promises,( or threats, however you want to take it) its up to Obama to prove his detractors right, or wrong. To me the most important issue for him to cover now is the elimination of the final minority, Rich People! Like it or not , black president or white, 10% of our population still controls 80% of the wealth, fat cats get fatter, big oil gets bigger, and the money machine rolls on for the final minority. Spread the Wealth Obama you promised.

If you do you only get to take half of your money with you, LOL, some free country we live in

Oh and Pres Bush taking $700 billion dollars to bail out banks is socialism as well, one doing it doesnt make the other right. Zubba76 speaks more truth then alot of people are willing to accept and that bail out was proof of that. The bill failed in congress first so what happend? The next day every news source out there quit calling it BAIL OUT and started calling it RESCUE BILL, haha sounds better that way and they pushed it through. What a load of crock.

Don't forget Dubya still has 75 more days in which to screw up and fumble the US of A. Pray he doesn't make things worse in that time...he's quite capable of it.

I'm not a fan of Obama or McCaine, but I think Obama was the better choice simply because of his running mate. Biden has a lot more clout than Palin could ever hope to get, and McCaine's selection of Palin is in my mind what sealed his fate. This election proved nothing in terms of racial acceptance, as all the southern hillbillies and cowboys voted for McCaine instead of Obama and black turnout was surely the highest in history, again voting entirely on color lines.

I'd like to see what Obama brings to the table. Certainly it can't be as bad as Bush, but really I don't expect any major improvements. He's just another figurehead with no credibility who will let the guys behind the scenes really run the show. It's not like at his inaguration he's going to pull every troop out of Iraq and Afghanistan and bring them all home or anything; it's all the same party politics regardless of who is in office. He'll pass the same bills McCaine would have that will benefit his rich buddies, while promising the blue collar people like you and I that he's looking out for our interestes -- all the while gas prices steadily creep back to the four dollar range and Osama Bin Laden lives to fight another day.

lazy, or disenfranchised?

its just so unfair that other people get what they work for, and some prosper from it. so long as you dont have to worry about putting gas in your car or paying your mortgage. you help him, he'll help you.

Is it fair that a CEO of a big company might get fired and get a severance package of $30 million for a few years work? That happend not too long ago with (I believe) Verizon or AT&T.

Is it fair a QB can suck and still walk away with $8 million? Is it fair that a rookie 1st rounder can make more guaranteed money in his first season than players who have proven their worth after 10 seasons?

Life isn't fair. Get used to it. It's not for the government to decide how much a CEO should make, or a QB should make, or even you and I should make - that's up to the shareholders and board of directors. Once the government has that power, it will trickle down to the rest of us; only those people THEY deem worthy will make money, and those people will change with every election.

Fiscal responsibility isn't something you can legislate. It has to be something that is shook up by the market. What we're seeing now will shake it up all right. I guarantee you we'll see companies being a lot more careful about executive pay and severance packages, and it will be a hell of a lot more effective than any government scheme.

For every CEO you hear about with the golden parachute, there are 10 or more who have no such assurance and bust their asses as much as you or I.

Let's also not lose sight of the fact that companies are what create jobs for most of us to work. Not the government. Stop punishing people and companies for success or people and companies will stop trying to be successful. That will do more to damage our future than any economic bubble bursting or bank failing.

Stop being jealous because your neighbor has more than you - you probably have no idea what he or she went through to get it.

Let's cross our fingers and pray that our new President does a good job.

I haven't said it, but Congratulations PRESIDENT Obama. Maybe we can put the last 8 years of outright war behind us.

Well, my company lost millions last year. This after being ranked number one in Inc. 500 a year prior.

It was easy to see all the errors being made and sloppiness from leadership on down, but now it has hit home and the shit has hit the fan. Now, only the strong will survive.

That's the way it should be.

*Just* millions? The banks would be happy to *only* lose millions. icon_e_biggrin.gif

I was thinking tonight (no way!) it seems to me that, morally/ethically any CEOs responsibility should be first to the employees and the customers, but too many put 'shareholder value' in first place, to the detriment of everything else. The best companies have these individuals in charge.

It's unfortunate this drive we have where it's all about 'shareholder value' or 'maximizing profits'. I guess it's a result of our very materialistic society. Yeah, I like money, too, but what purpose does it serve to squeeze people as hard as you can?

Well said- and in regards to the mainstream media the silence of not having the cajones to say one of the deciding factors in this election was racial is deafening. One look at the US county by county map tells you everything you need to know. If the African American vote in Ohio just goes 60-40 instead of 97% I'll repeat that, 97% Obama, he doesn't win Ohio.

Now that you've promised your followers the stars, sun, and moon- time to deliver Barak. Funny how in your acceptance speech, you're already running for a second term.
