And the window of opportunity for fixing any of that closed with the 2018 election. And the inability of the Republican party to work together to drastically cut spending. So again American politics is Big Time wrestling.

I’m not defending or deflecting anything, just pointing out Obammy was one of the main culprits.

Both Dems and Republicans own this mess.

But continue being the lib apologist.

They can fix it. That huge permanent tax cut for the rich is a good starting place that the Dems would agree on. Use it as leverage. Republicans have reversed roles somehow. I just don't get it. But it makes my point that they have given up the pillar of the Republican party, holding down costs and balancing the damn budget. I don't know if my guy McCain could have done better had he gotten elected when he ran. I would hope so. I still can't believe he added dingbat Palin, the Rep version of A O-C,  to the ticket. He'd a won had he made a better choice. Oh well, ifs and buts as they say.................🤔

We are in serious trouble with debt. The train is headed for a wreck and nobody seems able or willing to stop it. It started under Bush Jr. and Obama took over from there with Trump inheriting over 20 trillion in debt so to lay this all at the feet of Trump is disingenuous at best. The tax cuts by Trump were hugely successful and were needed to spur on the sluggish economy we had for 8 years under Obama. The tax cuts were not the problem they were the solution to increase revenue by growing the pie. The problem is out of control spending. That will be difficult to control which is why nothing is done about it except for politicians to keep kicking the can down the road. The debt will finally hit crisis levels and then the politicians will be forced to make very painful cuts. That is what I see happening.

You have to admit deficit is usually only important to the party out of power.

The Republicans have never been the party of Socialism or tax the hell out of the rich politics. You can hate Trump all you want but just don't be ridiculous about it.

Fiscal responsibility has always been my top priority and neither party has shown any restraint. The reason Reps won't tax the rich is that IS THEM and their doners. But to come up with a permanent cut for them only is ridiculous with these out of control budgets. I'm just saying start there as a bargaining chip that you're willing to give up in dealing with the Dems. But no one seems to be interested except some of those really super-rich guys like Warren Buffett.

It is easy to play class warfare politics which is why the democrats always do it. I just don't see the good in demonizing successful people who in most cases are paying their fair share in taxes. 45 percent of the country does not pay any federal income tax so the brunt of those taxes collected are coming from the wealthy. It is the wealthy who are the job creators and who do pay most of the taxes and I think it is counter productive to penalize those who are successful. When going after businesses with higher taxes we have to remember they don't pay those taxes. Any increases on taxes on businesses will be passed on to consumers. We are just taxing ourselves. In most cases when people are successful and making money we all benefit. A rising tide raises all boats. I like the tax cuts and the very good economy Trump has now (which Obama is trying to take credit for) is the result of the tax cuts.

We keep creating new government entitlement programs and the problem is once they are created (which is easy to do) it is tough to cut the programs. The problem is entitlement spending and it will be very difficult to control it now the toothpaste is out of the tube.

Don't mean to be obtuse but I don't understand.

If the party rightly says we need to cut spending way back how to raise some taxes and they don't get elected then neither of those things are going to happen, right?

I am speaking long term. Every party complains about debt when they aren’t running the show. If someone did get in office and pull off the bandaid, their party is likely going to suffer for doing the right thing. We all know that won’t happen till the wheels come off.

Obama wasn't an inflammatory candidate that basically said he would snap his fingers and cure all ills.  But man, were there plenty of dumbasses who believed he would.

Trump has made it a point of contention multiple times that he alone can fix the deficit and budget.   Unfortunately we see it's really still business as usual.    This is a top down and bottom up issue in many cases.  Poor management of funds is an issue you can point to with thousands of examples at the local, district, state and federal level.    The President, his administration and basically all sitting members of Congress (perhaps with few exceptions) are welcomed to take the brunt of the blame.    But finding a solution would be cool I think?

Yeah. But outside of glittering generalities what would be your proposal? And how long do you think those people stay in office when the inevitable grinding to a halt of the economy happens? Look what happened when Paul Volcker tighten things up to slow down inflation?

Okay,. that was so wrong it was laughable. ObaMao commie promised to "transform America", criticized us overseas several times, put the deep state into top gov positions all over our government, race baited/race favored - like when he knee jerked and blamed the Boston policemen because the prof was black, by knee jerking over other matters on a blatant racial basis, blatantly contradicKting himself over Real Marriage and our 2nd Amendment, promised to be the most transparent administration (that is one of the worst), ridiculed half of America, at least, with "clinging to their Bibles and guns" whatever the actual exact quote is, ...

https://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/obameter/rulings/promise-broken/

Pres Trump never promised to cure all ills - that is just liberal slant that means not much. He is doing his best to keep his promises, but there is your leftwing "resistance" that is trying desperately to take over and keep control of America.

How else can Obamao promise to transform us as a country? He even told the left to "Get in their faces" and that spread all over the country.

"They bring a knife, we'll bring a gun"   the meaning behind this is all the conservatives will lose any way the left has to work it.

and that is what is happening.

     Take it back. lol

Our debt is going to crash us if we don't stop the runaway train. Like illegal immigration - Bush(s) didn't stop it, etc etc etc - nobody else did either. Now, after Obamao deliberately set it to explode - Pres Trump is trying to stop it and the dirty corrupt dems are desperately trying to force him to fail.

What the...? That isn't inflammatory, that is Real American Courage and leadership. Pres Trump is NOT a politician - he doesn't have to do nothing about serious problems we face to keep being one.

Trump IMO has been the best president since Reagan in actually trying to fulfill his campaign promises. He not only has to face almost universal resistance from the left but also the Never Trumpers in his own party. Added to that was the attempted silent coup from Obama's FBI and DOJ with the phony Russia and Trump campaign collusion witch hunt and Mueller investigation and against all these obstacles Trump has done an incredible job of getting things done in spite of all of it.

EXACTLY !  I haven't hear one dem politician worry about protesters frightened his/her family at a restaurant, or even at their front door, being screamed at in public, .... not EVER, has a liberal judge gone before Congress and been viciously attacked and faced attempted destruction of their lifelong character - to keep them off the court by any means necessary.

That is the left. Reps need to stand up to intimidation, and fight back with strong votes to solve problems the right way.

Some are pansies. too bad.

Those glittering generalities would be a start provided you mean things like....

- Terms limits for Congress including post-office benefit packages

- Audits and restrictions on personal investments/divestment requirements when taking office at state and federal level

- Tighter discretionary and mandatory funding + audits

- A complete revision of the IRS including holding local, state and federal auditors and offices.

- Actual criminal pursuits for gross miss-use of funds regardless of the level of government.

- Overhaul of the military budget, schools and public funded university budgets targeting the inflation of middle tier administration, leadership and command.   No, I don't mean pay raises, health care and shit like BAH (which has already happened)  .  Trump went after the F-35 program, which was a great start and I applaud him for that.  (in for Cal storms through this thread with BUT WE'LL HAVE A MILITARY DEFEAT BY RUSSIA - No, we won't. And especially after his claims that we have two leaders who are now working towards a more friendly future)

An article here details some of those things.   Some I agree with, others not so much.   https://www.downsizinggovernment.org/defense/plan-cut-military-spending

I mean, I could post two full pages.   But my ideas are far from general.

The one thing I will credit the dems for is their willingness to fight for their constituents. I would also say that is my biggest disappointment with many republicans who don't fight for theirs. Case in point is Planned Parenthood. Even with all the horrid stories of selling baby parts and with republicans at the time controlling all three branches of government the dems made sure Planned Parenthood kept their government funding. Trump to his credit and on his own has done more on right to life issues and removing government funding for abortions than any other president since Roe v Wade. Just wish he would get more help from many in his own party but it is obvious many republicans want to campaign on right to life issues to get elected but not actually do anything about it.

true - the left doesn't have anybody trying to destroy their careers and lives - they are the ones doing it. With some republicans cowering in self-protection mode.
