Native americans want to live a certain way of life, a life they can't live anymore because they've been put on land that doesn't produce. Their "way of life" was predicated on being more nomadic. Indian tribes would move or stay as their environment dictated. Larger tribes became more stable in one area, but they still moved around quite a bit within a specific area. Ofc now that they've been put on barren lands they're forced to do business, to a certain extent, with the outside world. And they are at a distinct disadvantage in that. One thing you guys need to know is that early settlers in the U.S "flocked" to the native American tribes. So much so that Franklin I think it was, had to write back to the king that they were having problems keeping white folk in the colonies. Early settlements had fortifications that were meant to keep people "IN"...that's something we didn't learn in grade school. History has been mis represented to us. White women especially had interest in joining the natives because women were treated better and higher social standing in a lot of native American tribes vs the European norms where women were basically shit but useful in procreation. Then multiple times after that by whatever conquering tribes decided to take over those pieces of land consecutively. Indians on a reservation are no more living the life they choose in a natural fashion than animals in a zoo. That point is still valid today and applies to anyone who thinks the government (like most liberals do) is going to fully take care of them and will fix all their problems for them. I think Ford was not slamming the American Indians but our own government. Our government made promises to the American Indians we didn't keep and Ford was saying that is a warning and an example to all of us who put too much faith in government. There was a war for the control of land and resources - there always is and there always will be (the map of the world has changed since I was a child - no more u.s.s.r.) - and they lost.
