Free Agency/Trade Grades

Recommended Posts

Here is an ESPN article from yesterday assigning a "label"  (not a grade) to each team's "performance" so far from free agency signings/losses and trades:

The labels are:   Near Perfection .... Average.....Below Average.....Incomplete.

"Near perfection" Grades:

Packers, Jags, Jets, Raiders, Panthers,   Bills.....and Browns

Average Grades (most of the rest of the teams it seems):

Cards, Ravens, Falcons, Bears, Cowboys, Broncos, Lions, Colts, Chiefs, Chargers, Rams, Pats, Saints, Steelers, 49ers, Titans, Redskins

Below Average:

Bengals, Texans, Dolphins, Giants, Bucs

Incomplete:

Vikings, Seahawks, Eagles

Here is AFC North  transactions:

Browns:

Key additions: Odell Beckham Jr., wide receiver; Sheldon Richardson, defensive tackle; Olivier Vernon, defensive end

Key subtractions: Tyrod Taylor, quarterback; Breshad Perriman, wide receiver; Briean Boddy-Calhoun, cornerback

(My opinion:  huge net gains in talent)

Ravens:

Key additions: Earl Thomas, free safety; Mark Ingram, running back; Justin Bethel, special teams/cornerback

Key subtractions: C.J. Mosley, middle linebacker; Terrell Suggs, outside linebacker; Za'Darius Smith, outside linebacker

My opinion: fair size net loss in talent...particularly Mosley  (Suggs/Thomas a wash imo)

Steelers

Key additions: Steven Nelson, cornerback; Donte Moncrief, wide receiver;Mark Barron, linebacker

Key subtractions: Le'Veon Bell, running back; Antonio Brown, wide receiver; Jesse James, tight end; L.J. Fort, linebacker

My opinion:  huge net loss in talent (not even counting Bell).

Bengals:

Key additions: John Miller, guard; B.W. Webb, cornerback; Kerry Wynn, defensive line

Key subtractions: Vontaze Burfict, linebacker; Tyler Kroft, tight end

My opinion:  Not sure why they gave Bengals the worst grade.....seems a slight net gain in talent...got rid of a cancer in the mean time in Burfict.

Sometimes "cancer" is very talented...

One man's cancer is another man's......umm....er.....I got nothin for that...

He's got a clean slate here.  He's got friends here.  He was wanted.  Hopefully it's a good fit for everyone, we all play nice together and be winners.    (......and there's world peace)

I would have given Jax a higher grade just on QB improvement alone. The fact they added two OLs to improve the odds of that acquisition gives them a better score IMO. Bortles was a team anchor, sinking the ship to the bottom his whole time. Watch out for them under Foles and a healthy Fornette for the tough 1st down yardage. A team worth a gamble for the right price to win upsets this coming year. And worth a small bet for the whole enchilada @  around 50 to 1. $10 wins you $500.

Well....it seems you only counted what each team got in FA..or who they re-signed.  Did you factor in what each team lost?

Nope just what they got
