You are right it happens on both sides but when you put what you are saying on a scale and weigh it out it is heavily tilted towards the liberal democrats positions being forced down the populace through either the government or judicial system. Probably the biggest issue on the social conservative side today is the abortion issue. The article I posted uses this below as an illustration of why it is different because it involves the protection of life which is a function of government: "It is a legitimate function of government to protect life and property. Governments should, for example, prohibit murder. At the very least, governments should not encourage it. If certain citizens believe that abortion is a type of murder, then it makes sense for them to petition the government to prevent it. If a government fails to fulfill its responsibilities, then it is logical for those citizens to demand that it do so. This is not the same as the person who hates yellow cars demanding that the government ban all yellow cars (or a liberal democrat NY mayor wanting the Big Gulp banned OBF).
