Here is a set of Trivia all about the Conference title games.   All answers deal with the period from 1970 to the present:

1.  What are the trophies called that are awarded to the winners of the AFC and NFC conference title games?

 

2.  What 2 teams played in the very first  AFC title game? and who won?

 

3. What 2 teams played in the very first NFC title game?  and who won?

 

4. What stadiums were those very first Conference title games held in?

 

5.  What notable/famous fictional event was depicted on film  in the stadium that the NFC title game was played in right around the time that the game was held?

 

6. Two stadiums have hosted the AFC title game the most times.  Which two stadiums?

 

7. Which one stadium hosted the most NFC title games?

 

8. B. Four current AFC teams have never hosted an AFC title game.  Name them.    Note....I am now not including the Chiefs in this, as they will host Sunday's game.

C.  One current NFC team has never hosted an NFC title game....name it.

 

9. A.   What is the single most numerous matchup in the NFC title game...which two teams?

B. For the AFC, the most numerous matchup between teams in the AFC title game involves  4 different sets of teams.   Name these matchups

 

10. TEN Quarterbacks have started  5 or more Conference title games since 1970......name all 10 of these QBs.

 

11.  For all teams that have played in more than one conf. title game on the road,  only 2 teams have a winning road record in Conf. title games.  Name them. (note..at least 1 team has won its only road conf. title game....and a couple have gone .500 on the road.  I am looking for multiple road wins with a plus .500 record in those games)

 

12. Which 3 teams have won Conference title games in  2 different cities?

 

Bonus:  The Browns are 0-3 in Conf. title games since 1970.   But....one team has a worse record in Conf. title games.  Name that team.

Hard to do worse than a .000 winning percentage, so some team has lost at least 4 without winning....Jacksonville?

Colts over Chiefs  NO....Colts did win...but not over Chiefs

4. What stadiums were those very first Conference title games held in?

Baltimore Memorial Stadium   Check....but also need the NFC stadium

Black Sunday (movie)  Good guess, but no.

Jaguars, Chargers, Bengals, Ratbirds I had given three of them...and was only looking for one more...which you got: Ravens  (but the others were wrong that you mentioned)

Browns-Broncos, Steelers-Raiders, Patriots-Broncos, Patriots-Colts  Higlighted ones are correct.  Not Pats/Broncs

NFC is the George Halas Trophy.   AFC is the Lamar Hunt Trophy  (Halas one of the founders of the original NFL in 1920....Hunt one of the founders of the original AFL in 1960)

 

2.  What 2 teams played in the very first  AFC title game? and who won?

The Baltimore Colts defeated the Oakland Raiders.

 

3. What 2 teams played in the very first NFC title game?  and who won?

The Dallas Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers

 

4. What stadiums were those very first Conference title games held in?

AFC:  Baltimore Memorial Stadium

NFC:  Kezar Stadium, San Francisco

 

5.  What notable/famous fictional event was depicted on film  in the stadium that the NFC title game was played in right around the time that the game was held?

6. Two stadiums have hosted the AFC title game the most times.  Which two stadiums?

Three Rivers Pittsburgh and  Gillette Stadium Foxboro Mass.    8 each

 

7. Which one stadium hosted the most NFC title games?

Candlestick Park  Park San Fran.

Note:  of all the stadiums I have mentioned in the last few questions....ONLY Gillette Stadium is still standing and being used by the NFL (The field at Kezar stadium is still there, but the stands are mostly gone.. replaced by a small set of bleachers.  Stadium used for high school football and track meets)

The Ravens (despite winning 2 SBs),   Titans/Oilers (includes time in Houston),   Texans (so 2 teams in HOU...and never a conf. title game).   Jets.

C.  One current NFC team has never hosted an NFC title game....name it.

Cowboys vs.  49ers   have met  6 times

B. For the AFC, the most numerous matchup between teams in the AFC title game involves  4 different sets of teams.   Name these matchups

Steelers vs. Raiders;  Steelers vs. Patriots; Patriots vs. Colts;  Browns vs. Broncos

 

10. TEN Quarterbacks have started  5 or more Conference title games since 1970......name all 10 of these QBs.

In order of the number of time they appeared:   Brady 12; Montana 7; Elway, Bradshaw, Staubach 6;  Roethlisberger, Peyton M., Kelly, Favre, and Ken Stabler  5 times.

 

11.  For all teams that have played in more than one conf. title game on the road,  only 2 teams have a winning road record in Conf. title games.  Name them. (note..at least 1 team has won its only road conf. title game....and a couple have gone .500 on the road.  I am looking for multiple road wins with a plus .500 record in those games)

Broncos are 2-1 on the road in AFC title games.    The Giants are 3-0 on the road in NFC title games.

 

12. Which 3 teams have won Conference title games in  2 different cities?

Colts:  Indy/Baltimore;  Raiders:  Oakland/LA;  Rams:  LA/St. Louis

 

Bonus:  The Browns are 0-3 in Conf. title games since 1970.   But....one team has a worse record in Conf. title games.  Name that team.

The NY Jets  are 0-4 in AFC title games since 1970.    (won 1968 title before the merger)

Queston #5 answer:

This scene was shot in Kezar Stadium San Francisco.   Dirty Harry was released in 1971.   The 1970 season NFC title game was held here in Kezar between the Cowboys and 49ers on January 3 1971.  So, the filming had to have happened not too long before they played that game.
