THE BROWNS BOARD

The Steele Dossier: A Retrospective

This article may be over the heads of a few of the people here, but I'll post it for the those who can read more than a couple of lines in memes. It explains what the dossier is and what the intelligence he gather got right so far.

What is the dossier?

The dossier is actually a series of reports—16 in all—that total 35 pages. Written in 2016, the dossier is a collection of raw intelligence. Steele neither evaluated nor synthesized the intelligence. He neither made nor rendered bottom-line judgments. The dossier is, quite simply and by design, raw reporting, not a finished intelligence product.

In that sense, the dossier is similar to an FBI 302 form or a DEA 6 form. Both of those forms are used by special agents of the FBI and DEA, respectively, to record what they are told by witnesses during investigations. The substance of these memoranda can be true or false, but the recording of information is (or should be) accurate. In that sense, notes taken by a special agent have much in common with the notes that a journalist might take while covering a story—the substance of those notes could be true or false, depending on what the source tells the journalist, but the transcription should be accurate.

Since the substance could not be verified it doesn't look like anything Comey or the DOJ should have been using to take to a FISA court to get a warrant to spy on an American citizen like they did with Carter Page.

CBP said Felipe's father declined further medical attention because his son was feeling better. Late at night, at around 10:00 p.m., CBP said Felipe again appeared nauseous and "lethargic." Because there was no EMT present, agents decided to transport Felipe and his father to the same hospital in Alamogordo.   -days-of-felipe-alonzo-gomez-the-migrant-boy-who-died-in-u-s-custody/

Here's your collusion. You can move on to "its not illegal" now. For a fake dossier he sure does get a lot of shit right.

Cell signal puts Cohen outside Prague around time of purported Russian meeting

https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/investigations/article219016820.html

Former Watergate prosecutor Jill Wine-Banks said that if disclosures of the foreign intelligence intercepts are true, “This is a very significant break, because it looks like a direct link between Donald Trump’s personal fixer and Russians most likely involved in the disruption of our election.”

“It would prove that lying was going on, not only about being in Prague, but much beyond the Prague episode,” she said.

Steele’s dossier, a compilation of intelligence from his network of Kremlin sources, is full of uncorroborated details about the purported meeting.

It said Konstantin Kosachev, a longtime member of the Russian Senate and chairman of the Federation Council’s Foreign Affairs Committee, “facilitated” the gathering.

Steele reported that Kosachev may well have represented the Russians in Prague, where he had extensive ties. But Mike Carpenter, a former Russia specialist at the Pentagon under President Barack Obama, said that seems unlikely – about “as discreet as sending (Secretary of State) Mike Pompeo to meet with an informant on a sensitive issue.”

‘DECLINING JOURNALISTIC STANDARDS’: LANNY DAVIS BLASTS MCCLATCHY OVER DISPUTED MICHAEL COHEN REPORT

Lanny Davis, an adviser to Michael Cohen, is accusing McClatchy of “declining journalistic standards” over the news service’s recent report claiming that evidence exists placing Cohen in Prague during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“Can any member of the media take ‘No’ for an answer – in contrast to anonymous sources who at best are engaging in single, double, or sometimes triple hearsay if ‘intelligence sources.’ @McClatchyDC declining journalistic standards?” Davis wrote on Twitter Saturday.

On Thursday, McClatchy reported that Cohen’s cell phone pinged off of a cell tower in Prague in August or September 2016, at around the same time that the infamous Steele dossier claims that Cohen was in the European city to meet with a group of Kremlin officials. (RELATED: Michael Cohen Disputes Report That He Visited Prague)

McClatchy also reported that an Eastern European intelligence agency picked up chatter from a Russian government official who said Cohen was in Prague.

The intelligence has been provided to special counsel Robert Mueller, according to McClatchy.

If accurate, the report would bolster the dossier and provide the strongest evidence to date that the Trump campaign colluded with Russians.

But there are several problems with the story. The first is that Cohen continues to dispute the allegations even though he is cooperating with Mueller’s probe.

“I hear #Prague #CzechRepublic is beautiful in the summertime. I wouldn’t know as I have never been. #Mueller knows everything!” Cohen wrote on Twitter after the McClatchy story appeared.

One of the reporters who worked on the piece, Greg Gordon, also said in an interview Thursday that the story relied on third-hand information from sources who have not seen the underlying intelligence on Cohen. No other news outlets have been able to corroborated the bombshell report.
