Critical games between playoff teams this week:

Thursday:   Kansas City vs.  LA Chargers.....for supremacy in the AFCW....and maybe even the entire AFC.

Dallas vs. Colts

Patriots at Pittsburgh.

Bottom of the barrel games (struggle for high draft pick)

Arizona vs. Atlanta

Oakland vs. Cincinnati

Weeks ago this was so hypothetical and of little to no interest for BROWNS fans.......not exactly true now. ;)

Nice to be still in it.

And since Gipper asked- I don't understand how the Dolphins are currently behind the Colts...   'Fins 6-4, Colts 6-5, even their Division record is better.

Three or more teams...

  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
  2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

We can catch the Ravens.

That would do it in a two team confrontation....but what about when there are 4-5 teams in the mix?  I thought something else applied.

Yeah Gipper- I posted the above when it's a three or more way tie. If it involves two teams in the same division, the division tiebreaker applies first.  Next, a team gets the nod if they've beaten all of the others, or eliminated if they've lost to all the others.

Colts don't play the Ravens, though they did beat both the Titans and 'Fins.  It will sort itself out in the next couple weeks. NFL.com will probably start posting the what ifs and whys the next to last week.  :)

It looks like the Chargers have taken over the number one seed in the AFC tonight with their last minute crazy win over the Chiefs

Not yet...the Chiefs still have the tiebreaker at this point.

No they don't. They split.

Oh based on what?

Chiefs have better division record.   4-1 to 3-2.

So the Chiefs still have the tiebreaker advantage and still hold the #1 seed in the AFC.  Just like I said.   :)

Sorry Mark, getting old and confused. They need to change who gets to host a playoff game. Chiefs\ Chargers could go 13-3 and have to play a road game against a Steelers team, or LOL the Browns who were 8-7-1.

I agree.   The Chargers or Chiefs will have to play their first playoff game on the road and thats crazy.   Probably better for the Chargers.  They play 16 road games anyways so it won't be a big deal for them.   Probably a better view for the league as well then having the Chargers hosting the AFC championship game in front of 25,000 fans, most dressed in opposing teams jerseys.
