In the 70's I remember hearing about how lazy our generation was while myself and most of the people I knew were working long hours and more than one job and had no clue what they were talking about us being lazy. The fact is that people are the same then and now. The "greatest generation" did some great things but it was out of the culture they were raised and not anything inherently different about them. They grew up lean out of the depression and knew what hard times were about. I would argue morally we were better off back then as well. When they were called upon in WW2 they rose to the occasion. But what about the Viet Nam vets or Gulf war vets and even our military today who also have rose to the occasion and made sacrifices (and sometimes the ultimate sacrifice) for our country? Are they any less than the "greatest generation". Maybe the greatest generation over compensated with how they were raised and tried to give too much to their children the boomers? I don't know. If the greatest generation left the boomers a better world for the boomers to increase upon and do even better for the next generation than sure it was a failure. The staggering ever growing national debt alone being left for the younger generation to pay is sad. If you want to place blame though there is plenty of fault to go around.
